Pond Damselflies
Family Coenagrionidae
Genus Enallagma
Skimming Bluet (Enallagma geminatum)

"Black-type" Bluet – the male's abdomens are predominantly black when viewed from above. This damselfly has small eyespots and as a rule lacks an occipital bar.

Flight season: late June to early September.

Population: common, the greatest numbers occur along the marshy vegetated north shore of Stoco Lake, but often encountered foraging a fair distance from water.

Length: about 25 mm, a small damselfly. Both sexes have a wavy blue line on S2 (resembling a distorted letter "S" – as in "skimming"). The male's S8 and S9 are blue, the female has paired blue spots (sometimes fused) on S8.
