Autodidact
In portraying interpersonal relationships, polarities
are often at play in Emily’s pieces. Much of the time, she shows a contrasting
quality of warmth and coldness, truth and falsehood, love and hate, and dark
and light. She shows both depth, and yet maintains constant transparency within
her work. There is an obvious amount of history behind each piece that she
creates, and the life experience which they show is honest, and thoughtfully
represented. Her work has a “presence”, and timelessness through her portrayal
of social/spiritual ideas.

“In the work process; my main focus is on the contrast
of planes (or dimension), lines (movement), and natural forms (materials)
through the medium, and effect of “Life’s dynamics”. I base all of my work on
“the experiential” which requires me to use instinct, and tact. The “concept”
which I apply in any given work is for the most part complex yet “readable”.
This “readability” is important to me, in so far as I believe that it has to be
simple enough for a “child” to see and understand. My intent is to create
pieces which have both innocence and knowledge.

Personally, my attention is always drawn and focused
to the materials which are available at any given moment in or around my house,
as honest and emergent process works. Inspired primarily by nature and human
interaction, I spend a lot of my time observing, and letting myself be absorbed
into the world around me.

I am interested in the visual healing aspect of the
arts, (soul Arts) and things like energy fields, Quantum physics, alternative
economics, alternative agriculture and farming, philosophy, child development,
Nature; human, plant and animal.
