General. Today’s solemnity is a feast of blessings to God the Father, to His Only Son Jesus Christ and to the Holy Spirit. Nothing is expected of us other than belief in this mystery and our adoration to our one Godhead in all His power and greatness.

Proverbs. The reading is a clear reference to the Second Person of the Most Holy Trinity who has been with the Father since the beginning.

Romans. St Paul reminds us that peace with God is achieved through Jesus Christ Our Lord, just as the love of God was instilled in us through the Holy Spirit who was given unto us. If we are aware of this by the grace which we have received in Baptism, this grace instils hope within us that we might yet perceive the glory of God, and this hope is truth itself.

St John. The perfect relationship of the Trinity between Father, Son and Holy Spirit is witnessed in this Gospel reading. Jesus reveals that Father and Son are one, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from their oneness to portend all that which is yet forthcoming. The relationship is ever-living and portrays the Godhead in time, with the Father of the Old Testament, the Son of the New Testament, and the Holy Spirit who always was and is, and who guides in faith believers in God of all times and the Church to this day.
