General. The Easter celebrations, now drawing to their end, remind us of God’s love towards us when He gave up His Only Son for our salvation. If this kind of love is to be found within us, we can start testifying to it by fulfilling the works of life everlasting as from our very own lifetime. These works will definitely show the Resurrection that is within us and which we have obtained by putting on Christ in our Baptism.

Acts of the Apostles. Those were turbulent times when the Church was born. There was a great divide between previous Jewish laws and customs and the essentials which make up Christianity. The issue, mainly about the circumcision of the pagans, was discussed in the first ecumenical council (ecumenical because the Church was already spreading far and wide). What was really necessary was to forsake certain foods and to keep away from fornication. The grace of Baptism would do the rest. Recall Paul’s words, "Once you have been baptized in Christ, you have put on Christ".

Apocalypse of St John. The Church is seen coming down on earth as a wonderful and respledant gift of God to humanity. Twelve is the key number here, of doors, angels, tribes and apostles. God the Father and the Lamb of their own right constitute the temple which gets its lighting from the Lord (both Father and Son together), as should every Christian who has received eternal light in Baptism.

St John. Jesus is preparing his disciples for his departure to the Father. The greatest commandment Jesus gives is to love one another. The same way Jesus received the Father’s love, he commands us to be constantly in that love so that we might live out the real joy which only He can give. He also promised us the Holy Spirit who was to descend and teach and remind us about all he had said, about love especially and keeping his commandments.
