General. Eastertide opens up a time of joy for the Christian which lasts fifty days and beyond. After having been baptized during the Easter Vigil, the early Christians wore a white dress for eight days, which they would then lay aside on this Sunday – Dominica in Albis. This dress reminds us all in what manner we have been cleansed from sin, with which Spirit we have been reborn, and with which Blood of the Lamb we have been redeemed.

Acts of the Apostles. One of the ways God permitted the early Church to develop was to put the Jews’ trust in the apostles. Other than by mere envangelization, they were also given power to lay hands on the sick and heal them, the same way Jesus did. Those were special times when miracles were needed for the faith to grow, when to see was to believe. How much more blessed were those who only believed because of the Word and who did not see yet believed.

Apocalypse of St John. The Beloved Evangelist gives us a picture of the early Church, the key-words of which were ongoing work, kingdom and patience. Yet the Son appears to him in all his glory and announces himself as the Beginning and the End, one who was dead but is now alive, the Living One who has in his hands the keys of God’s kingdom and of the underworld. In brief, the Lord who has taken humanity and all life into his hands.

St John. During the time between the Resurrection of Jesus from among the dead and his Ascension into heaven Jesus gave out several signs to open the minds of his disciples, who up to that time had understood very little. They now start believing. Our belief, even if we have not seen the same signs which the disciples have seen, renders us blessed in God’s eyes if only we testify to Jesus being our Lord and God. Putting one’s hand in Jesus’ side is an invitation to us all to put our hand in the Scripture and to reckon the message it contains for our individual lives.
