General. Belief in Jesus is also belief in the Father and in the Spirit. Whosoever entertains this belief may be called as son of God, meriting eternal life which is bestowed on them by Baptism. It is by this grace that they can celebrate the Eucharist within the Church which is a temporary place on earth where the faithful gather together to give praise to God as His adopted children.

Book of Wisdom. The dichotomy between body, flesh and the soul has been existent since Old Testament times. Wisdom derives only from God as its only source and understanding that He gives it to anyone He wills through His Holy Spirit. Otherwise the body comes quite easily to corruption and the flesh (sins of sexuality) blind the body’s eyes and leads it to perdition.

Epistle to Philemon. St Paul shows great filial love for those early Christians to whom he had preached the faith. His life is an actual replica of God’s love towards humanity. He is now exhorting Philemon to accept back Onesimus no longer as a master taking back a former slave, but as a dear brother in Jesus Christ who has made us all, by his blood, worthy of being called sons of God.

St Luke. Jesus was not quite impressed with the multitudes following him wherever he went. There was one basic tenet those people had to fulfil if they were to be called real followers. They had to leave all and follow him unconditionally without ifs and buts. And all means all – parents, relatives and earthly possessions. His follower has to be a friend of the poor and lowly and this cannot be achieved unless one harbours in his soul such humility as is required of him. To this end, some hard thinking has to be done before entering the battlefield of struggle against power and wealth.
