Homily Points
2nd Sunday of Advent – B
General.
This Sunday’s Liturgy gives us the strength we need to rush towards the heavenly Father, begging conversion before the coming of His Son on earth. He will give us wisdom to understand the true meaning of His intervention in the history of humanity which still falters to accept Him.Isaiah.
The way of the Lord has to be prepared, rough roads made smooth, a path laid on the desert sands, mounts and hills cut through. For the Lord is coming as victor, winning over to Him all those who have mended their personal ways and opened up their hearts to Him.Psalm 84.
The Lord’s salvation is well nigh unto us, depending only on us whether we would like to receive God’s grace which will foster in us peace and justice.Second Epistle of St Peter.
Time is of no consequence to the Lord, a thousand years being very much like a single day to Him. The Lord wants each of us to come to repent before His Day arrives and a new heaven and a new earth become our abode where peace and justice reign for evermore.St Mark.
The beginning of the Gospel of St Mark sees Baptism as the corner-stone of all Christian life. John the Baptist has baptized with water but Jesus was to bring forth in those who accepted His Word, the Holy Spirit. In receiving baptism in the river Jordan, the baptized did so in full awareness of their being sinners. After all, Jesus came for sinners as it is not the healthy who need a doctor.
