Homily Points

28th Sunday B

General. There may be times in our way towards heaven when we might lose heart from the turmoils of life and begin looking downwards (at ourselves) at the encompassing waves and like Peter, who tried walking on the sea (death), start sinking. In this Eucharist, however, we are going to pray God to renew courage within us, to be aware that He is standing by our side, and to give us the courage to perform good deeds.

Wisdom. For the Christian Wisdom means seeing God in His Son Jesus, His Eternal Word. When the Christian is filled with the spirit of Jesus he would not lack anything worthy this life could give him, neither possessions nor richness. He would only find his fulfilment in being filled with Jesus Christ and then he would surely not lack anything.

Hebrews. Jesus Christ, who is God’s Wisdom and Word, is alive and almighty. Since Jesus lives, he knows and understands out thoughts and wishes, and because he is almighty, he has been given power by the Father on any person, creature or thing in heaven and on earth which is laid bare and open before him. It is to God, and to Jesus standing on His right hand and intervening for us, that we shall be giving an account of our doings and judgment will then be passed on us.

St Mark. Christians are called to follow Christ. To be able to achieve this, he is invited to think about God’s ways and to leave behind him all those things which might be of a hindrance to him to achieve this on earth – family, possessions or any other material burthens. This cannot be accomplished by any person simply by his deeds, but with the power which God gives him.
