Homily Points
26th Sunday B
General.
We are all aware of needing God’s mercy and forgivness. So, while praising God in holy communion with our Christian brothers, we shall also pray Him that He may continue bestowing His grace upon us, forgive us our sins and have mercy on us.Book of Numbers.
God raises and appoints prophets so that they might be able to preach out to man in any given situation he may be in at any particular time. The prophets are ordinary persons, though called by God, who have the Spirit of the Lord on them. It is for this purpose that we are duty bound to consider their words and admonitions as if they are coming from God Himself.St James.
The apostle speaks strongly against those rich persons who only think about increasing and enjoying their wealth without ever sharing with needy persons. They would bring all kinds of excuses to justify their wanton behaviour, little realizing that death would one day hold sway over them and exterminate all that had been sown on earth.St Mark.
Jesus warns against any scandal which may be given to the young and innocent. Anything which serves as an occasion to sin, be it even part of one’s body, should be cast away. Jesus says this because he expects his followers to put God’s things first, fully excluding anything which might be an impediment to his obedience to God’s will.
