Homily Points
22nd Sunday B
General.
Sunday Mass may mean for most little more than a time to fulfil an obligation or a tradition which is little, if at all, understood. Very few understand the meaning of Thanksgiving which the Liturgy implies and consequently fail from praising and adoring God the way He ought to be praised and adored. The Church will today give us the opportunity to foster in our hearts love for the Holy Name of the Lord God and to recognize that all that which is good in our lives comes from God.Deuteronomy.
It often happens that God’s laws appear to us to be outdated, making little if any sense in this sophisticated world of ours. Yet God wants us always to follow all the commandments and precepts He gave us so that we might achieve the wisdom and the knowledge which distinguish us from present-day pagans around us.St James.
The disciple who has wide open ears to hear will only be fooling himself if he does not perform all that which he receives by listening to the Word of God. It was God Himself Who gave us birth to everlasting life by giving us His Word of Truth, through Jesus Christ himself. It would therefore be our duty in putting this Word into effect to keep ourselves spotless, away from earthly doings and glossy displays.St Mark.
Jesus speaks out in no uncertain terms that any wrong-doing which exists comes out from man’s inner heart, and that thus the most important thing is man’s conversion towards God. Conversion means turning one’s self and heart inside out and taking up a different life direction. More than performing any cult or being subjected to any tradition in the name of religion, conversion is in itself a leap in faith, trusting oneself blindfoldedly in God’s hands.
