Homily Points
20th Sunday B
General.
The Eucharist we celebrate each Sunday is a liturgy of thanksgiving which the community uplifts together to God. The community here acts as a gathering of believers, rather people who have faith. The term Eucharist actually means to give thanks, and thus the celebration encompasses within it all that which gives praise to God for having sent His Son Jesus Christ to redeem us. It is also a rite of praise to the Name of Jesus which is above all names.Proverbs.
The Lord’s table is prepared for the poor, for the weak, for whosoever is weak in spirit. Only one thing is required in order that we might be invited, namely setting aside all that freaks our good sense and instead keep on walking on the right path towards the one Wisdom, who is Jesus.Ephesians.
St Paul invites us to recognize the times we are living in. As Christians it is our duty that we always do God’s Will for us individually, and that we become aware of what it is for us by being replete of the Holy Spirit, mainly while participating in the Eucharistic celebration.St John.
Jesus tells us that we receive life everlasting within us when we eat his Body which he has given up so that the world might have everlasting life. The body of Jesus offered for the redemption of mankind on the Cross is the true living bread, coming down from heaven for this very purpose, and to introduce us to eternal life.
