Assalamo Alaikum

 In Islam, is it necessary or preferable to expend the amount of zakat in the same place or city or town where it is collected from? And what if Ameer collects all amount in the center, and then spend wherever he thinks important or necessary?  wassalam--

Answer

It is not necessary, but preferable to spend zakat in the same place where it is collected. Hazrat Muaz bin Jabal used to spend zakat in Yemen and send the remaining zakat to Madinah for distribution in other places. Hazrat Usman used to send zakat to other places for distribution, as there were few in Madinah who qualified for zakat.
