Assalamo Alaikum,

I am staying in a city, away from my home town, for a few days. My question is, “Shall I offer sunnah salat, too, along with obligatory ones?”

May Allah accept your salats. There are two points of view in this regard:

There is no information that the Messenger of Allah (S) ever offered nawafil in his journeys. However, according to Imam Hasan Basri, companions of the Messenger used to offer sunnah salat in their journeys.

According to the four school of thoughts of Ahle-Sunnah, a traveler has a choice to offer the sunnah salat, if he so wishes. According to Imam Abu Hanifah, it is better not to offer sunnah during the journey, but should offer sunnah in the state of residence. (Fiqh-us-Sunnah)
