 "I read Qur'an & Bible both. It is difficult to understand:

Maryam is called as a sister of Aaron in Bible. Imran is father of

prophets Moses & Aaron.  Maryam is daughter of Imran.  I'm confused of this.

Please tell me the truth"

Answer:

Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Ali, in his translation of the Qur'an, has explained this point under ayat no. 35 0f sura no. 3. I briefly explain it here for you:

"Prophet Yahya's (John) mother Elizabeth was a cousin of Maryam. Elizabeth was of the daughters (descendants) of Prophet Haroon (Aaron) who was a son of Imran. Maryam's mother Hannah (Anne), being a cousin of Elizabeth, then also was a daughter of Haroon's (Aaron) family. This then makes Maryam a daughter of Haroon's (Aaron) family as well, and hence a daughter of Imran. Moreover, the husband of Maryam's mother Anne was also called Imran. Thus Anne was a daughter of Imran in a double sense."
