Dear Brother Afzal and Sister Naeema Assalamo Alaikum. It is good to know that you want to know Islamic teachings, and wish others to know as well.

Salat during Jumaah khutbah:

As soon as Imam comes into mosque for khutbah all activities including salat of all kind are disliked according to four schools of thought i.e. Hanafi, Shafaee, Maliki, and Hanbali. Peoples are required o listen to khateeb. They should stop talking to each other. They should not greet Salam as well, nor reply to it. They should not start any salat during khutbah. If they happen to be in a state of offering salat, they should however complete their salat. However peoples of Al-Zahiri school of thought prefer to offer two rakats of “tahiyyate masjid”, even during khutbah, before they sit down to listen to it. They argue on the basis of a hadith that says whenever a person enters a mosque he should offer two rakaat of “tahiyyate masjid”. Both these attitudes are based on research and deduction. None of these attitudes is against the Qur’an and Sunnah. All Muslims have right to adopt an attitude that they deem correct. For the sake of unity of ummah, one should not criticize or condemn the other. Wallaho alam bith thawab.

Method of Wudhu (Ablution):

Allah T’ala has said in the Qur’an: “When you stand for salat, wash your faces, your hands up to elbows, touch your heads, and your feet up to ankle bones” (Al-Maidah 5: 6). This implies according to all schools of thought that the following four washing is obligatory: 1. Washing face from start of hair on forehead up to lower part of chin lengthwise, and from start of ear lobe from one side to that of the other side widthwise. 2. Washing both hands starting from tips of fingers up to and including elbow bones. 3. Touching, at least a fourth part of head according to Hanafi school of thought, with wet palms from front to back (it is called masah). 4. Washing both feet from top of toes to the back including heels up to ankle bones. Any one who does these has fulfilled the obligatory part. He can perform salat after that. However there are some Sunnah in wudhu as well, and doing these are very much liked. These are: 1. Reciting Bismillah before starting wudhu; 2. Washing first palm and fingers of both hands; 3. taking water in the mouth and swishing and spitting out; 4. Putting water in both nostrils and cleaning them by smallest finger of left hand; 5. Cleaning outer-sides of both ears by fingers just after masah; 6. Washing of every part should be done three times; 7. All these acts of wudhu should be done one after the other in continuation without any unnecessary delay. The first four washing should be done before that of required parts. Lastly the order (tarteeb) of washing parts in whole wudhu is also a required Sunnah.  Any one who misses Sunnah parts loses thawab and intercession of Prophet (s) as well on the Day of Qiymah (Reckoning). Wassalam
