Respected Scholar

Salamun Alyek

First of all, jazakallah for your answer and your valuable prayers for me.

In my last question regarding four rak'at nafil salat with one salam you put a condition that it is allowed only in daytime and it is not allowed at night. Am I right in saying that the hadith that you mentioned was about tahajjud prayers only? And if my opinion is not right, then why do we perform four rak'at salat before 'Isha prayers?

May Allah increase you in knowledge.

Answer:

May Allah accept your quest of knowledge and reward you for that, Amen!

The hadith that I had mentioned in my last answer to your question applies to all night salats with some exceptions, according to some school of thoughts.

First of all, you should understand that nawafil are of two categories: Ratibah (Muwakkadah or Masnunah) and Ghayr-Ratibah (Ghayr-Muwakkadah or Mustahab). According to Hanafi School of Thought, there are four rak’aat of Mustahab nawafil before and after each ‘Isha salat; for it, they quote a hadith from Lady ‘Aisha R that the Messenger of Allah used to offer four rak’aat of nawafil before and after ‘Isha salat.
