Dear brother,
If we apply for a job and give a false work experience work certificate only( but a genuine work degree) in our CV to meet the requirements of the work experience needed( as nobody gives a good break to a fresher with no work experience) ,is the income got from that job halal ?
I asked this to someone, they said income is halal because he is genuinely working hard for that job, only there is a deception of experience involved but labeling this as haram is going too far. So what is it, haram or halal, or is there any other term we can use for it which is less harsh than haram?
Also if we know that someone has done something like this, are we equally sinners if we do not point this out to him? Because pointing this out can be awkward for us .Or if we pray to Allah that he may guide this person to the right path, is that okay or do we have to verbally confront him with this issue?

Answer:

Dear Brother Mirhan Sibtey, Assalamo Alaikum!

First, I would like to congratulate you on your quest of knowledge. May Allah increase your knowledge, and help you practice on them.

You have raised two questions. I will answer those questions in the same order

Forged Certificate: You should, first, understand that committing a sin is always haram. No doubt, the sins are categorized. Falsifying a witness (i.e. shahadah or certification) or hiding the truth is a major sin (Please see No. 18 in the list of major sins in section ABC of Islam on this internet). Allah says,

من اظلم ممن كتم شهادة عنده من الله

(And who is more wrongdoer than the one who has a shahadah with him from Allah and hides it?)(2: 140)

The Messenger of Allah has also said that the sins of false witnessing and “shirk” (joining partners with Allah) are equal (Abu Dawood).

Forbidding Wrong:  Allah says,

والمؤمنون والمؤمنات بعضهم اولياء بعض يامرون بالمعروف و ينهون عن المنكر

(Believing men and believing women are supporters of each other; they order virtue and forbid vice) (9: 71)

It is a duty of a believer to propagate good things and to stop evil things.

The Messenger of Allah has also said that whoever of you sees an evil act, he should stop it by his hand; if he is not powerful enough, he should say it by his tongue; if he is not powerful enough, he should think in his heart about the badness of the deed, and this is the weakest form of Iman. (Muslim)

Yes, it is our duty to stop people doing wrong things, but with wisdom and strategy, because we do not have power over everybody. If there is a danger of creating a worse trouble, because of forbidding the evil, better keep aloof from such people.

    Wallaho ‘Alam bith thawab.
