Dear Br. (Name withheld) Assalamo Alaikum!

May Allah increase your knowledge and zeal to get

more.

Your question is as follows:

Asalaam Alaikhum

I am not sure about sura 'Abasa, ayah number 1. "He

frowned and turned

away".

Some people say it refers to the prophet Muhammad

(saw), when he turned away from a blind man when he

came to him and interrupted him.  But other claim that

the prophet (saw), being the best of creations would

never do that, and that this ayah refers to someone

else.  Can you please explain to me who it refers to

and what is the story behind it.

Thank you

Wasalaam

ANSWER:

The Prophet Muhammad (S) was deeply busy in talk with

some elders of Makkah inviting them to Islam, when

Ibn Maktum(a blind companion) came to him and asked

him to recite the Qur'an to him. As the Prophet (S)

was busy with someone else, he showed his irritation

on this intrusion. He was a MAN. It was but natural.

Nothing objectionable was there in this attitude.

However, Allah(s) at once pointed him out to give his

attention to a person, who was willing to listen (Ibn

Katheer,Ibn Jareer, A. Yusuf Ali, M. Maudoodi, etc.).

It may help you to understand that this was not the

only occasion where Allah(s) had guided the Prophet

(S). See, as one example out of many in the Qur'an,

the first ayat of Sura At-Tahreem. Whenever there was

a misstep by the Prophet(S), he was at once corrected

by Allah (S).The mistakes did not go unchecked and

uncorrected by Allah. This is what it means that the

Prophet (S) was Ma'sum.

You may also ask those, who claim that it was about

someone else, to give the name or story and proper

reliable references in their support.

Hope this will satisfy you. May Allah give all of us

correct concept of the Qur'an, and the Status of the

Prophet(s), Amen!

Wassalam
