Net Major League: The Commissioner Clipnotes

Hello! NNL and NAL, it has been a while since you heard from me. I am going to send this out to ensure you that the NNL and NAL are still going strong. In the "Commissioner's Clipnotes", I will inform managers on what is taking place in the NML, any important dates coming up, any possible rule changes or rule changes that will be implemented in the NML (NNL and NAL).

The NNL draft and Part II of the NAL draft is schedules to begin in mid-February. The exact date will be sent out one week before the start of the draft. As soon as I get the new version of Strat-o-matic's CDROMBB game; I will create the leagues (NNL and NAL) and send them out in a Winzip file. If you have not received the cdrombb 6.0 game when I send out the league files, save it on your hard drive until the game gets to you.

There are two major points I like to address in this issue: Free Agent Compensation and Interleague play.

Free Agent Compensation:

For the managers in the NNL who do not know about the Free Agent incident in the NAL here is a brief description of the incident. During the draft a manager realized that if a player went over to the other league as a free agent then he would lose the player without any compensation. Lets just say he was upset and decided to leave the league. Other manager voiced their displeasure in knowing that they may lose players this way.

The upset manager stated that it was unfair to lose players like this when you have no control over them. All I can say to this is we don't have any control of the players in Major League Baseball. As managers in a game that recreates the players to simulate MLB, we have no control over players like a real MLB GM or Manager has over a player in where a player plays, how a player is used, if a player gets hurt. We just have to live with the situation.

I have come up with a plan that will address this issue. This is the only plan that I think will work and at the same time keep the sprit of the NNL and the reason for its rules. Some managers have suggested taking number 1-3 picks from the team that gets the player as a free agent depending on the talent level of the free agent. This is not possible in the Net Major League as the NNL uses only National League players and the NAL uses only American League players. I don't believe giving a team extra round one picks are fair either as the majority of the free agents will come from the good teams in the NNL or NAL and thus could create a bigger gap between the good teams and bad teams. In the Major League Baseball when teams get compensation pick they are picking players who they think will become good or great players. If NNL and NAL managers were given extra first round picks, they will be picking players that they know will make it to the "Big Show". So, with this in mind, I propose a Compensation draft to take place after the Spring Draft (Rookie draft).

2004 RESULT: THERE WILL BE NO FREE AGENT COMPENSATION.

COMPENSATION DRAFT

When an NNL or NAL team loses a player to free agency, the team will get a pick in the Compensation Draft. This does not cover players that sign with Japanese teams, retiring players, and players who are hurt for a season.

  1. The draft order of the Compensation Draft will be based on won-lost percentage of the teams in the Compensation Draft.
  2. The players picked in the Compensation Draft will be placed on the teams Rookie Team Roster.
  3. Players pick in the Compensation Draft will not be counted as part of the 35-man roster of the team that picked them.
  4. Each NNL and NAL team can only have 3 players on their Rookie Team Roster.
  5. Players drafted in the Compensation Draft can not be used during the same season as they were picked. Example: players drafted in the Compensation draft in 2002 can not be used in the 2002 season.
  6. By October 15th of each year, Managers must inform the commissioner of any players on the Rookie Team that they want to call up to the Major League Roster. (The only exception to this rule is teams that have no managers on October 15th. New managers can inform the commissioner when they take over the team.)
  7. Any players not taken off of the Rookie Team Roster by the 15th can not be used in the following season. (The exception in No. 6 applies to this rule as well).
  8. If a team's Rookie Team Roster already has three players at the time of the Compensation Draft and the team picks a player, a player on the Rookie Team Roster must be cut to make room for the new player.
  9. Any players cut from the Rookie Team Roster will be placed in the Free Agent Draft in November.

I believe the above rule is fair and manageable to everyone in the NNL and NAL

RESULT: MAY, 2007: THIS HAS BEEN VOTED DOWN AS I HAD A SIMALUR PROPOSAL VOTED DOWN IN NOV 2006

Interleague Play:

I very much would like to have interleague play by 2002. Below is how I plan on to incorporate this into the Net Major League. The problem exists with players that played in both the NL an AL in the same season. In 2002, players who have cards in the NL and AL will follow the dates that they actually played in the respected in the NL and AL. The NML will round up or down to the nearest month. Players traded on the 15th or below will be rounded down and players traded after the 15th will be rounded up. Example: Lets say a Yankee was traded to the Mets on July 20th. This will mean the NAL manager can use this player until July 31st and the NNL Manager will be able to use the player in August.

Post season Play: (Players with both NL and AL cards) the league that the player in question is in at the end of the MLB season will be the league the player can play for in the World Series. Example: Baltimore traded Mike Bordick to the Mets late in the 2000 season. This means the NNL team that has the NL version of Mike Bordick can use him in post season play and the NAL team that has the AL version of Mike Bordick can not use him in post season play. Don't worry, in the NML 2001 season both teams can use Mike Bordick and players like them in the post season. So, it could be possible that both teams in the NML World Series could have the same player. I am doing it this way as some players like this have been picked already and NNL and NAL managers did not know of this at the time.

May 27, 2007: THERE WILL BE NO INTERLEAGUE PLAY IN THE NML

THE NINTH INNING

I hope all the above is clear to everybody. If it is not, I will be happy to explain it again. So, if you have any questions, please send them to me.

Thanks
