While our primary focus here at Harvest Moon is breeding and training Collies of the Scotch ("Lassie") type, we also keep a Border Collie or two. The primary reason is because they are so darned talented and fun to work with! But in our Collie breeding program we also like to keep in mind not only those qualities that make up a good working dog, but also those unique aspects that make a Collie a Collie -- in other words, we have no desire to re-invent the Border Collie! We do not breed Border Collies, but enjoy training and competing with them.

Summer is the first dog I ever trialed, and came to me as a 2 year old, when I was at a point of frustration in training my first Collie. He taught me more about what my job and the dog's job in stockwork is than any human or book ever could have, and showed me how beautiful a true working partnership is. He overcame phsyical obstacles (including the surgical removal of his right hip joint) that would have permanently side-lined dogs with less heart, and went on to achieve almost every goal I set for us as a team. It has been a tremendous priveledge to be the person Summer chose to be his owner and working partner. In return, I have given Summer a gift -- a retirement home on a small sheep dairy in Oswego County, NY, where he doesn't have to "share" his flock with any other herding dogs.
WISP
Harvestmoon's Barely A Whisper
We adopted Wisp from Northeast Border Collie Rescue (NEBCR) after it appeared that Summer would not recover enough from his hip surgery to trial again (of course, he fooled us and did!). She's been patiently waiting in the wings for her turn in the spotlight, and I constantly wish I had more time to work with her -- she is SO much fun! Her energy and stamina are through the roof -- we call her our 110% Border Collie. She could easily work all day and still have energy to spare, while at the same time being very biddable and obedient. She has enough talent to do anything I'd ask, if only I could find the time....meanwhile she enjoys hiking and playing with the kids.
TEAK
Teak and I have only just begun to work stock together, and it's a work in progress. I have never owned a dog with this level of extreme keeness to work. I am finding it very challenging! He's a handfull on stock, but is a wonderfully mellow house dog, an absolute love to live with, a delight to hike with, and the world's best kid's dog.
