Kagome is a young school girl who happened to fall through the well at her families shrine. It transported her back to the Fuedal Era of Japan. There she freed the half demon Inuyasha, who was held to a tree by a magic arrow..
While in Fuedal Japan, Kagome found out that she was the reincarnation of Kikyo, the priestess who protected the Shikon no Tamon (Shikon Jewel). The Jewel was found in Kagome 's side, but was soon after shattered. Now Kagome and Inuyasha are travelling all over Japan to find the missing Jewel Shards before they fall into the wrong hands.
