I guess JOHN is back with the ACES...not yet CONFIRMED...but I heard from some reliable people. Kuya Rey texted me yesterday telling me that John went to Alaska's office to make changes on his contract. Then Jessi told me earlier that John was at Moro yesterday practicing with the ACES.
I guess EVERYTHING's OK now, right? Can't wait to see JOHN again...
SAD SAD SAD...Here's my story...I had a job interview yesterday, it's near Ateneo. I was done by 230PM so I decided to drop by Moro to see if John attended the first day practice of Alaska. And guess what...
there was no JOHN ARIGO @ practice. I was really sad although I somehow expected it. But deep down of course I was still hoping he was there.
Oh well...that's basketball for yah...ASSURANCE is the key. I guarantee that whatever John decides upon..I'm still gonna be here to support him.
Arigo wants out from Aces lineup
Alaska gunner John Arigo is reportedly asking for a release from the Aces, something that the teams front office suspects, but he may need to look for a respectable deal to find some other team to play in for the coming Philippine Basketball Association season.
Word leaked out that Arigo was asking to be traded after the 6-2 guard left blank on the table the Alaska offer worth at least P12.6 million over three years and asked permission to keep his options open and talk with other teams.
Neither coach Tim Cone nor team manager Joaqui Trillo confirmed Arigos desire to leave, although Trillo mentioned that Arigo asked the team if it was okay to talk to other teams.
He said is this the time to talk to other teams? I told him to go ahead, Trillo said.
Maybe he has another agenda in mind, Trillo said.
Alaska is not going to battle to keep possession of Arigo if the player wants out, but the Aces will be looking for something in return before it lets go of the three-year pro.
We have to get something in return, Trillo explained. If its a good trade, then maybe well do something. Well just play it by ear.
Cone had no knowledge of Arigos request, saying, as far as he knows, Arigo will be suiting up for the Aces when the Fiesta Cup opens in February.
Theres nothing cooking as far as I know, Cone said.
Arigo was picked sixth overall in the 2001 draft and was signed to a three-year deal worth P10.8 million. He won one championship with the Aces, when Alaska fought a twice-to-beat edge of Coca-Cola to take the Invitational crown last year.
Alaska laid down its juicy offer to Arigo Friday in a meeting also attended by Scope, the agency managing the basketball affairs of the half-Filipino shooter, and Arigos wife.
The offer included maximum perks and bonuses under the league rules.
But instead of signing, he asked for permission to test the free-agent market.
No other offers were reported yet. If a team tries to reel in Arigo with a lucrative offer sheet, Alaska, by virtue of its right of first refusal, has five days to match the offer.
If the offer is matched, the Aces will still keep Arigo. Late last year, a report said the Aces dangled Arigo to Shell for the Turbo Chargers first pick overall in the draft but no agreement was reached.
