History Of Magic
International Confederation of Wizards:
The first supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards was Pierre Bonaccord, but his appointment was contested by the Wizarding community of Liechtenstein, because Bonaccord wanted to stop troll-hunting and give the trolls rights.  Liechtenstein was having problems with a trible of particularly vicious mountain trolls.  The confederation met for the first time in France, and Goblins had tried to attend and been ousted.  Nobody from Liechtenstein had wanted to come.

The Legend of the Chamber of Secrets:
Slytherin built a hidden chamber in the castle, of which the others knew nothing.  Slytherin sealed the chamber.  HIs heir alone would be able to unseal the Chamber of Secrets, unleash the horror within, and use it to purge the school of all who were unworthy to study magic- muggle borns and squibs.  The monster inside is a Basilisk, a large snake, and all who look in its eyes shall suffer instant death.

Witch Burnings:
Non-magic people (muggles) were particularly afraid of magic in medieval times, but not very good at recognizing it.  On the rare occasion they did catch a real witch or wizard, burning had no effect whatsoever.  The witch or wizard would perform a basic Flame Freezing Charm and then pretend to shriek with pain while enjoying a gentle, tickling sensation.  Indeed, Wendelin the Weird enjoyed being burned so much that she allowed herself to be caught no less than forty-seven times in various disguises.
