A large male bird of eastern Mediteranean. Descriptions of Phonix vary considerably. Some say the bird is an overal reddish gold, others that he is royal purple with a golden neck and head. The phonix is friendly to hmans but does not mix in their affairs. He is semi-imortal. Their method of reproduction is unique. At the end of each cycle, the phonix build a nest of spice tree twigs, settles into the nest, and with a single clap of his wings sets it on fire. The mature bird vanishes and a young phonix emerges from the ashes. The first task of the young phonix is to fly to the Temple of the Sun, at Helipolis in Egypt, and place the mummified body of his father upon the altar. After that he settles for several centuries until his time comes. |
