| A House Elf lives to serve wizards. Many see this as slavery, and there are many arguments among wizards on this subject, though it seems these creatures are only happy when they are working. Rich wizarding families own at least one House Elf to cook, clean, and perform other menial duties in the household. Hogwarts has kitchens filled with House Elves, and at night fires are lit, curtains drawn and more by hundreds of them, unseen by most. The trademark of a good House Elf is not being seen. A House Elf's enslavement is ended when his master gives it clothing, thereby setting it free. |
