�Yes, I did. I wanted to find out what was going on, and to see how far my partner had become involved with him and her ex. And I wanted him to know that if he was messing with my partner, he was messing with me.� Diane thought for a moment, and a look of calm suddenly washed over her face. �I promised to kill him if he hurt anyone I cared about.�

�You what?� Dr. Hubley looked up suddenly.

�He was taunting me, daring me to run off with him to some remote locale, implying he was going to be rich. And he came on to me again, but in a sick way, sharing that he couldn�t get it up. Like that�s going to make me want to jump into bed with him.�

�How did you get to promising to kill him?�

�I was exasperated. He was droning on about escaping in comfort to the Falkland Islands, and it was obvious that he was going to hurt my partner�s career along the way, and that he didn�t give a rat�s ass about it. So, I told him I�d plug him if he did that.�

�What was his response?�

�Unbelievable. Like someone who had nothing to lose, he said, �Do you think I�d care?� I just got up and left.�

�How did you feel about him then?�

�Well, sad. He�d made all these offers to me, and I couldn�t help but think that either he really wanted me to come along with him and didn�t care I was a cop or what would happen to my career if I took him up on his offer, or he was so loaded he forgot that I was a cop. He made the offer again the next day, even told me he was about to run. I couldn�t believe he thought I�d consider running off with him.�

�Did you consider his offer?�

�Not for a minute. Well, maybe for a minute. I haven�t taken a vacation in years, and I admit, I fantasized about sitting on a beach in Antigua, sipping a Cuba Libre, taking the sun, holding hands.�

�So, you found him attractive.�

�Yeah, I guess I did. And I didn�t. I mean, I knew he was a manipulative jerk. I knew he didn�t care who he hurt in his quest for a quick score. But I can�t get the feeling of his lips out of my mind. Or the way he looked at me. Really intense.�

�Yet, you arranged to get him arrested, which cost him his career. He must have felt animosity toward you for that?�
