�Sure. We talked about that at lunch the other day. Dr. Muzqu�z is from Colombia. His family immigrated seven years ago from the Cartagena area.�

�Thanks, Angie,� Dr. Pachla smiled and patted her on the shoulder before returning to the back office.

Diane stretched out on the couch and told Dr. Hubley exactly what happened in Dr. Pachla�s office.

�I thought Dr. Muzqu�z was your OB/GYN?�

�Yes, normally he is, but he was in a c-section today and so he sent her instead. She confirmed I�m eight to ten weeks pregnant, which I can�t believe. That means it absolutely must be Danny�s. He�s the only one I was with during that time frame. What disturbs me most are the missing notes.�

�There were notes missing? Like what?�

�Someone in the lab ordered a paternity test, but no one knows who it was, and there were no results.�

Sitting behind Diane�s head, Dr. Hubley studied her chart carefully. She was afraid that Diane would see her face and that she would be discovered. She read the results carefully. Danny was clearly not the father of this baby. And Denby was clearly alive eight to ten weeks ago. Diane insisted they had not had any interaction beyond kissing. Unwilling to support her patient�s insistence on a spiritual night visitor, she was determined to withhold this information as long as necessary.

�By the way,� Dr. Hubley remembered, grateful to change the subject, �you were going to bring me the amends letter that Denby wrote you. Did you remember that?�

Diane slipped the letter out of an inner pocket of her jacket. It was unopened.

�Let�s open it and read it together.�

�I don�t want to know what�s in it,� Diane said immediately. �You read it. I�m leaving.� With that, Diane sprung out of the couch and walked quickly out of the office, slamming the door loudly behind her.

Dr. Hubley hung her head and sighed. She tossed the envelope into Diane�s file, then went to her desk and picked up the phone. She dialed and waited. �Dr. Pachla? Rose-Marie Hubley. We have a patient in common.�

�Diane Russell,� Dr. Pachla responded.
