22 Paternity test? Diane gasped. You didnt request it? No! Who did? Dr. Pachla flipped a few pages down, and read, Lab 234. No names. Thats odd. She stared at Diane, who was looking all around the room as if searching for an escape hatch. Diane, who would want to know this? Who would care about the results? And who else knows youre pregnant? No one knows, Diane rasped, Just you, Dr. Hubley and Dr. Muzquz. Does Danny or your boss know? No way. No one at the 1-5 even suspects anything. Diane chewed on her lip and looked at the doctor. She seemed nice enough, but Diane didnt want to look like a nut case and discuss her suspicions that the real father was an incubus and was probably manipulating these things just to drive her crazy. Doctor, could you look into this, but very quietly? I dont know whats going on, but something isnt right about this, Diane spoke slowly, then stared at the STD chart on the wall. By the way, you said something about a cauterizing procedure. What was that for? Thats something the doctor would do to treat the genital warts, especially if they are obstructing the cervix. Do you need injections for that, directly into the cervix? It depends on how large and how many they are. I hated that procedure. I had to lie still on my back for two hours afterward before they would let me leave. Dr. Pachla looked up from her chart suddenly. What? Two hours? Why did he have you do that? Her face was pale. He said I would experience some pain, and that I needed to recover for a while after the procedure. Was that wrong? Diane looked worried. Dr. Pachla shook her head and resumed scowling at the chart. Were done for today, Ms. Russell. Ill meet you out at the receptionist station. Im prescribing prenatal vitamins, and you can pick them up from Angie at the front desk.
