Dr. Hubley wrote the script and handed it to Diane, whose whole demeanor had become somewhat somnambulant. Are you going to be okay? Would you like me to come with you?

Fine, Diane whispered, then shook the fog from her head and in a stronger voice, she said, No, really, Im fine. Ill be fine. Im sure of it.

Dr. Hubley wasnt nearly as certain, and she paced around her office for a few minutes. An idea sprang into her head, and she sat at her desk, flipped through her Rolodex, and picked up the phone. She tapped her fingers while she waited for someone to answer her call. Hello? Dr. M? Rose-Marie Hubley...Fine, thanks. Real good. Listen, I have a favor to ask of you. You keep DNA samples of all the NYPD officers, right?

Dr. Hubleys fingers were shaking as she fumbled with the envelope. She finally grabbed her letter opener from the drawer and slipped it quickly through the top edge, then held the letter as she tossed the envelope aside. She opened it and read quickly, then let the letter fall to her desk. Suddenly remembering to breathe, she gasped and placed her hands on the desk for support as she read the impossible report again.
