65 Diane smiled, Good night. Sweet dreams, Harry responded absentmindedly. Diane? Diane reappeared around the corner. What? Oh, never mind, Harry said, looking self conscious. What? I was just wondering if I could get another hug. I mean, since I saved your life again tonight. And your virtue. Sure, Denby. And while were on the subject, will you call me Harry? Okay, Harry, Diane said, and put her arms gently around him. They held each other for a long time. Diane fit nicely in Harrys arms, and she was content to stay there for a while. Without realizing it, the two began gently rocking. Unable to sleep, Harry flipped on the tube and watched the news. He set the timer to turn off the TV in exactly thirty minutes, turned off all the lights, and snuggled down under the blanket, his head on the pillow. His shoulders and his re-injured finger ached, but it was nothing sufficient to prevent him from sleeping. He waited through a few minutes of commercials, bored. Diane came out of her room and sat down next to Harry. Im sorry, did the TV wake you? No, I am just too keyed up to sleep. I thought Id sit and watch the news with you. Besides, that hole in my window is giving me the creeps right now. Diane crossed and rubbed her arms as if shivering from the cold. Harry pulled the blanket over her lap, and they shared their warmth as they watched the broadcast. The anchorwoman began: Our top story tonight: A South American drug family hit man has killed two emergency medical service technicians and escaped from an ambulance. The man, whose last known alias was Bob Martinez, was knocked unconscious after attacking two police officers tonight. He was not restrained when he was loaded into the ambulance. The names of the EMS technicians have not been released, pending notification of family. In other news Diane and Denby stared at the TV in disbelief. Denby turned it off, and Diane looked miserable. She turned to Harry and wrapped her arms around him. This time, it was she who needed the hug. She needed to feel Harry breathing, needed to feel him alive next to her, holding her up. Harry leaned back into his pillow, and Diane pulled her legs up onto the couch to lie next to him. She leaned her head on his shoulder, and he pulled the blanket up over both of them.
