54 Whats wrong, Diane? Danny asked when he noticed she was scowling. Nothing. Just a feeling, she said, shaking her head. As they entered the building, Danny took the opportunity to scan the street, too, before closing the door behind them. A man sat up behind the wheel of an old brown Buick, started the engine, and pulled out into traffic. Two cars behind it raced for the rare parking space the Buick had left behind. A huge crunching sound filled the air as the man backing into the space slammed into the woman driving forward into the space from behind him. The two jumped out of their cars and started an altercation, and horns from blocked cars behind them started blaring. Ah, the sounds of New York in the fall. Diane and Danny were oblivious to the excitement in the street as they rode the elevator up to Dianes apartment for the night.
