48 Jeez, Diane. This is really something. We need to get Fancy in on this. Hes been taking a beating from Martens all morning about the screw-up at the bank yesterday. John, Greg and Baldwin watched Diane, Andy and Danny cross the squad room and enter Fancys office. Okay, well maybe Im glad Im not in the loop on this one, Greg said, watching Fancys face with trepidation. From the cheap seats, Greg watched as Diane paced in the office, recounting her story. She handed Fancy a note which he read quickly, then handed back to Diane. Fancy picked up the phone and made a call. Diane stood in the corner with her arms crossed as she listened to Fancys half of the conversation. Danny and Andy looked at each other with concern on their faces. Diane melted into a chair with a numb look on her face. Danny walked over and rubbed her shoulders reassuringly. Greg was very glad to be in the dark. No one in NYC Law has ever heard of Bob, Robert or Roberto Martinez, Fancy said as he hung up the phone. Theyre checking the Bar to see if hes there. I doubt it, said Danny. Duh, said Andy. Diane looked miserable. A few minutes later, the phone rang, and Fancy answered it. He listened silently to the news. Thank you, he said, hanging up the phone again. No Bar record, either. And his phone is disconnected. Oh, big surprise, Andy said. The big question, Danny said, ignoring Andys sarcastic remark, is this: did Bob know about the warehouse meeting that we did with Don to set up the bank job? I never discussed it with him, Diane said. I dont think Denby did, either, at least not when I was around. Thats our best hope for finding them. And if hes still alive, its because there was enough money in the bag to whet their appetites, and they believe theres more where that came from, Danny said. Lets check it out, Fancy said, decisive as ever.
