Kiss and Don't Tell
by Mary-Cade Mandus
This is the scene that takes place the morning after Diane and Harrys first meeting in the bar. I took a lot of liberties with this scene, hope no one minds.
From the staircase
She has a clear view
Hes
Sittingsaggingleaning
Hunched over
Head buttressed by his hands
Looking very Jolly Green Giant
Peaasparagusbrussel sprout
Green.
She contemplatesfleetingly
Placing a wastebasket strategically
But
Nah, serve him right if he pukes Chivas
All over the stationhouse floor
Anyway, last time she looked
There was no "St." crowning her name.
He sees herstands
Sufferingtottering
On legs as wobbly as a new-born
Wuss
Geezhe looksg.d. awful
This is going to be fun.
In a voice
Polluted by excess
"I don't remember what happened last night."
Shes going to give him nothing
"Did you...come to the motel with me?"
Nada
"Got a blackout."
Zilch
"For what it's worth I apologize."
Nyet
Cowardgutlesswimp
Doesnt have the balls
To look her in the eye
With a sneerdisgusted shake of her head
She turns on her heel
And leaves him standing there
Halfway up the stairsshe pauses
And watches his walk a straight line progress
Towards the door.
She smiles
A secretwoman's smile
And blows a mental kiss to the bright
Floridcrimson
Hickey peeking"Kilroy Was Here"-like
Over his shirt collar
On the back of his neck
