Gooshie trailed around to each of the consoles as he spoke.

"Yeah, but what if something goes wrong during the leap? I mean like, really wrong?"

"Then both Dr. Beckett and Detective Denby will die," Ziggy said in her dulcet monotone.

Gooshie stared at her. "What? No odds? No calculations? Just death?"

"The odds are one hundred percent that in the event of a malfunction, both Dr. Beckett and Detective Denby will die. Does that make you feel better?"

"No!" Gooshie barked, still pacing. "Tell me how."

"The probability of their dualist existences crossing on any mathematically physical plane at once will reduce the likelihood that they will continue to be to zero."

"What?"

"You asked how they would die. Two people cannot be in one place."

As much as Gooshie wanted to keep complaining at the computer, her point gave him pause. Finally, he shook himself a little and continued. "How did Harry know how to fix the chamber?"

"He doesn't. Dr. Beckett fixed the chamber."

Gooshie closed his eyes and set his jaw, determined not to scream at Ziggy for being so literal. "How did Dr. Beckett get here to fix the chamber if he's in New York trying to save some cop?"

"The relevant part of Dr. Beckett was never anywhere but here."

Gooshie pondered yet another indecipherable from his pet computer, then suddenly realized what she was talking about. "Swiss cheese!"

Ziggy came as close to an exasperated sigh as Gooshie had ever heard her get. "If that's what you wish to call it."

"No! No, really! I get it! It makes sense! If... if the host has Sam's body while Sam makes the leaps, then... then they also have the physical chemistry of Sam's brain, too."

"Dr. Beckett is an amazing intellect," Ziggy cooed.

"That's what Harry meant. Somehow, Harry was able to use Dr. Beckett's brain properly when he had it. That's why Sam couldn't just tell us how to fix the chamber in the first place. He didn't lose his memory, he lost his mind!" Gooshie stood in absolute triumph for just a moment, listening to the words ring through the lab.

Then he realized what he'd just said.
