18 "It would have made the honeymoon very awkward," Al agreed. Sam flipped that over in his head for a little while, then stopped his pacing short. "So why am I still here?" Al opened his mouth to say the obvious when something on his handlink caught his eye. "That's strange..." He gave the little piece of technology a few whaps on the side. "The announcement is gone." "Gone?" Sam echoed, trotting over to him. Harry made an approximation of the word with his mouth, but no sound was coming out. He'd been stricken silent by the sudden news his of impending nuptials and now that they were just as suddenly... not, he wasn't quite sure what to think. Al continued frowning at the readout. "I don't know what happened. Ziggy couldn't have lost the... wait a minute." Everybody waited for it, then suddenly Al paled by several degrees and began to read in a quiet voice. "New York Times, March 1st, 2001. NYPD Detective Diane Russell was found dead in her apartment late yesterday evening with one gunshot to the head. Foul play is not suspected." He looked up with unfocused eyes and a hush in his voice. "Suicide." The three men exchanged looks, one confused, one determined, one terrified. As Sam started for the door, Al tried to throw numbers after him. "Ziggy now says that there's a ninety seven percent probability that..." "Save your odds for the track, Al," Sam grumbled over his shoulder, already standing impatiently in the doorway. "Just get me her address." Al began to pick at the link, but Harry suddenly located his voice. "Apartment 4C, 2600, East Twenty-Fifth." He continued shouting after Sam as he clunked his way down to the main door. "You have to take the stairs..." he glanced at Al. "Because the elevator..." He glanced at Al again. "... the elevator doesn't..." He glanced at Al a third time, finally stopping to field the older man's incredulous look. "What?" "Mm-hm." Al nodded omnisciently as he went back to the handlink. "How many times you been up her way, son?" Harry folded his arms. "Officially none. You gonna tell her different?" Al looked up from the handlink, pointing his meaning directly into Harry's eyes. "What are you waiting for?"
