61 Detective Russell, will you come with me please? Lt. Fancy said as he opened the door to the interview room. John, Miss Franco, please return to your posts. John and Mary exchanged confused glances, but they rose immediately to follow his orders. John followed Fancy and Russell as fast as he could. He didnt want to miss one second of their interview. To his chagrin, Fancy closed the door. However, he was delighted to see Fancy start talking without closing the blinds. John did his best to appear busy, and stole glances at Fancys office as often as he could. Detective Russell standing in the corner ... leaning against the brick wall with her head in her hands ... Fancy crossing the room to put a hand on her shoulder ... Russell leaning her head on his shoulder, sobbing ... Fancy patting her back sympathetically, still talking ... Russell standing up straight, anger filling her eyes ... now looking horrified ... Russells hand rubbing the back of her neck while the other arm is crossed over her stomach ... Russell looking out at John, noticing him watching her, turning away to face Fancy. John looked up once more to see who had just burst out of Fancys office. Detective Russell nearly ran out of the room, grabbing her coat and pocketbook in one smooth motion as she flew past her desk. John sat at his desk, pencil in one hand, phone receiver in the other, his mouth hanging open. Uh, Fifteenth Squad, he finally whispered to the caller as he shook himself back to life, realizing the caller had been shouting Helloooooo! several times to get his attention. Fancy approached the desk, and John covered the mouthpiece. Where is she going? Out to hunt down Denby. Hes the chief suspect in a double murder in a bar brawl early this morning that also resulted in Det. Kelly being stabbed. John gasped and dropped the phone.
