How long have you been married, Mrs. Krechnov?

Sixty years today, she said, and her face had acquired a glow of pride. We married on February 14, 1941. Claire stood up and started looking around the apartment.

Where is your husband now, she asked, and the tension that filled her voice surprised Diane and Mrs. Krechnov.

Out, she replied, looking nervously at the door. Her glow had completely dissipated He vill come back soon, so you need to leave now.

At that moment, a loud thud emanated from the coat closet by the front door. Claire pulled her weapon and leapt across the room to stand beside the door. Diane pointed her weapon directly at the door, and nodded to Claire, who turned the handle and pulled the door open. Out fell the limp body of Mr. Krechnov.

Happy anniversary, Claire whispered down to the man as she holstered her weapon for the second time during this visit. Mrs. Krechnov busied herself cleaning and polishing the furniture.

Poor old lady, Diane shook her head as she finished relaying the story of the mornings DV collar turned homicide. John, Danny and Andy looked sympathetic. When Danny and Andy returned to their work, Diane leaned over to whisper to John.

Are you sure there are no messages for me? Nothing at all?

Im sorry, Detective. He hasnt called. Not once.

Wheres Claire? Diane asked in her regular voice.

She took lost time. I havent seen her since you came back with Mrs. Krechnov and briefed the officers holding her. John was so discreet about personal items, she couldnt tell if he was covering for Claire or not.

Okay, thanks, John. Diane shook her head.

Whats wrong, Diane? Danny asked, Is Claire okay?

She was really tense on this call, and I have no idea why. Usually Im the one who gets rattled on DV calls.

Is Claire around? a familiar voice asked John. Everyone turned and noticed Mary Franco at Johns desk. Danny got up to greet her.
