| Archibald (Archie) Couey was born in November 1844 in Livingston, Floyd County, Georgia. After the beginning of the Civil War, he and his brother William enlisted at Big Shanty, Georgia and became part of Co. D, 29th Georgia Infantry. This unit, part of the Army of the Tennessee, participated in campaigns from Atlanta to Chickamauga including Hood's winter operations in Tennessee and fought at Bentonville. After the War, Archibald came west to Arknasas and married Susan Matilda Roberts who was born in Bellefonte, Arkansas. With his health failing, he became a resident of the Old Soldiers Home in Little Rock, Arkansas, were he died on May 1, 1922. He was buried in the Confederate section of the Little Rock National Cemetery. |
