William Berry McMahan - born May 18, 1834 in Fairfield, Tennessee, and died on   February 27, 1919 in Carroll County, Arkansas.
He joined the King Cotton Guards in 1861, which became part of the 2nd Mississippi.  During the battle of Williamsburg, he lost three fingers.  He also served in the 48th Mississippi Infantry, then joined Hay's Regiment, 28th Tennessee Cavalry, which is on his marker.
After the War he married Martha Wall, and stopped in Carroll County to visit Dick Hittson, who he had found on the Battle of Chickamauga.  Mr. Hittson had been left for dead on the battlefield.  William and his family stayed in the area until his death, with his family living on the extreme west end of Bradshaw Mountain.
