Harper Skill

Skill is earned by studying and performing. It can be obtained in any subject, without limitation. This is generally done by means of a lesson. There are three major divisions into which we group lessons:

  • Performance
  • Archives
  • Other Skills

Each lesson attended counts for a single skill point in the area covered. Alternately, an independent project may be counted instead of a lesson, or two performances, provided that those performances are witnessed by another harper or a journeyman or above of any other craft, or weyrman or holder of equivalent experience. A lesson taught counts for two skill points, on the principle that teaching of a subject solidifies the experience and understanding of the teacher.

Skill can come in handy during role-play, for example, sign language depends on the players each having a certain amount of skill in order to understand each other. There may be other skills required for other aspects of MOO role play, and if a player is interested in something specific he or she should find out what skill is needed and request lessons in that area from someone who is knowledgeable.
