OOC Harper Reference

  • To join the [Harper] channel:
    1. addcom harp=Harper (it's case sensitive, so be careful)
    2. harp on
  • To subscribe to the *Harper mailer: @subscribe *harper
  • To read the *harper mailer: @read next on *harper

The Harper Council handles the daily functions of the craft. All Journeypeople and Masters are members of the Harper Council, and the mailer is *Harper Council, or *hcouncil (*hcou). To get in touch with the Harper Council, please either page a member or: @send *hcouncil

Suggestions or comments, hopefully at least a little bit constructive, may be anonymously mailed to *Harper Feedback. Mind that you do not abuse the ability to send anonymously; if slander or libel is posted, we will be forced to investigate. However, we all appreciate knowing how craft members think, so please don't hesitate to @send *hfeedback with ideas or problems, even if you think that we won't like what you have to say. That's why it's anonymous!

OOC Harper Utilities

The Harper Parent (#697)

This is a child of the generic player, of which everyone on the MOO is a child. As such, it has all the functionality of a standard player object, and help is available online. Some useful verbs, however, are:

  • cwho [ for <craft> ]
  • clist [ for <craft> ]
  • @mentor | @mentees <player>
  • @skills <player>

Harper Feature Object (#10536)

This has a number of handy craft-related functions on it; help feature will give you more information.

Harpercraft Member Features (#2870)

  • harper
Subcommands include: council, list, staff, info, assigned, book
Use 'harper' alone for a help screen.
  • staff
Only available to staff members, obviously.
Subcommands include: add harper, add staff, rank, set
Use 'staff' alone for a help screen. Most of these commands are deprecated and replaced by similar functionality on the Harper FO.
  • council
Only available to council members, obviously.
    Subcommands include: list, cm-roster
Use 'staff' alone for a help screen.
  • book
Intended for non-harpers, this verb allows access to the song anthology. Use 'book' alone for a help screen.
  • hwho has been duplicated by cwho on the craft parent.
Lists online harpers. Use 'hwho/m' for a list which includes skill levels.

The Staff Tackboard, in the Harper Office (#1987)

  • view
Allows the harper to look at any of the various things which are posted there.
  • @performance/@skills/@archives
Records a lesson in one of the three categories. Any harper may record the lesson.

Harper Rulebook (#6040)

Contains basic IC and OOC rules for harper behavior. This is important for all harpers to read.

Of course, it omits the most important rule of all: don't get caught!

Useful Facts for Harpers (#5986)

Basic stuff, good advice. Contains a lot of similar content to this Harper Life and Craft Policy section, with some expedient extras.

Anthology (#269)

A collection of all the songs from Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels up until All the Weyrs of Pern, plus songs written by Harper's Tale Harpers. If you have a song you'd like to submit, ask one of the journeymen or masters or @send *hcouncil.

Marriage Outline (#2880)

A general guide to performing handfastings on the MOO, written by Master Namire some time ago. Jueann's Guide to Handfastings is also available, and covers Pernese custom more thoroughly.

Generic Instrument (#1599)

The Generic Instrument also serves as a songbook, since it has the generic songbook as its parent. Please don't use two spammy objects when you only need one.

  • tup
    Tunes the instrument up.
  • tdown
    Tunes the instrument down.
  • chktune
    Checks the instrument's tuning.
  • write <chapter> on book
  • play/sing/recite <chapter> in book
  • read <chapter> in book
  • erase <chapter> from book

Note that once a chapter has been entered into a book, it may be edited using the noteditor by typing @notedit book.chapter_[#].

Message Drums (#8994)

The parent to all those shiny kettledrums we use to communicate when firelizards are too unreliable and dragonriders are busy. There are drums set up at most of Ista's Holds. In order to use them, your character needs to understand drum code. Talk to a staff member about this if you'd like the skill.

beat drums [ <message> | /a<message> | /s<message> ]

/a sends the message in advanced code, and /s sends it in secret code.

The Generic Sandtable (#1334)

Really, this is a neat portable editor. You can describe it as a tablet, if you like, and carry it around. But please, don't carry around a whole sandtable; that's *way* OOC and completely implausible.

The Harper Voting Booth (#1207)

This handy thing is for putting issues to a final vote, usually after some discussion on the *hcou mailer and HarperCouncil channel. It is a feature object which must be added.

  • @issue adds a new issue to the approval queue.
  • issues will list issues in the approval queue, and allows the CM, C2 and HarperHall to add or remove issues and move them to the box for voting.
  • ballots lists the items to be voted upon and allows the council member to vote.
