Today is Thursday, January 6, 2000. Our mother visits Harold every day, and I call her daily for information. Sometimes when I call she's not home, or sometimes she's home but has nothing different about Harold to report. Yesterday when we spoke, she seemed to think that Harold was a bit better than her earlier visits this week. He seemed to be more attentive to her conversations, and seemed to respond quite appropriately. I was very happy to hear her encouraging words. Please pray for me as I begin searching the possibility of using my professional contacts in the entertainment business to start some sort of foundation or charity benefiting coma victims. I know there is a spinal cord injury foundation through Christopher Reeve, but I am not aware that any sort of foundation or organization exists for coma victims. Since launching this web site, I've heard from so many people who's lives have been devastated by an injured loved one and they don't have the slightest idea about the injury itself or where to go for help. I'm only in the stage where I'm beginning to gather information about creating a foundation or organization, and perhaps I will decide that it wouldn't make sense for me to pursue the idea. The first obvious flaw to the plan is that I'm not a doctor or health care professional, so I don't have those credentials behind me when I approach investors, etc. It's a lot to think about and that's about where I'm at with it all right now, but I would appreciate if when you're praying for Harold, you could also pray that perhaps through Harold's illness, if it's meant to be, many other families could have a place to turn to or an organization to call for information and help. Again, I think I'd be in way over my head to begin such a task, but wouldn't it be wonderful if I could actually make it happen? Best to you all today in whatever you set out to do. Let's change the world, together!

Today is Wednesday, January 5, 2000. I again apologize that I don't have any updates for you today. I'm a bit frustrated during this waiting period, but I'm learning to be more patient. I will visit Harold soon, and will know more then. I have updated the Testimonials page, and I think you'll find the recovery story of a gentleman named Matt (not to be confused with Matt Kennel) very inspirational, and just the "hit" of patience that I needed today. Please feel free to click on my Testimonials link and read about an amazing recovery. Also, there's a wonderful story in the December 1999 issue of "Guideposts" Magazine that I'm trying to get permission from them to post. It's about the recovery of a coma victim and his wife and how they beat some pretty sore odds. I will say to "Guideposts'" credit, that they are working on making an exception for Harold. They do not allow their articles to be reprinted on The Internet, but they have generously offered to try to change this policy for Harold's web site. Whether or not they are able to get the policy changed, I think the way they are handling it deserves great credit. They responded to my request immediately, and went a step further by saying they've added Harold to their prayer list. I'm very grateful for that, even if they can't give me a green light to post their article. I will follow-up on this as I hear more from them later. Although they don't post the full magazine on the web, the "Guideposts" Magazine web site can be found by clicking this link. Blessings to you all today.

Today is Monday, January 3, 2000. I plan to visit Harold again in the near future, but haven't heard of any changes since my visit last week. Thank you for your many wonderful prayers and support. Here's a recap of my last visit: I was with Harold on Christmas Day and the day after Christmas. Both days my visit was rather short, but I did feel Harold was a bit more confused than my previous visit. When I arrived back in NYC on Monday, I phoned Harold's nurse-in-charge to ask what types of medication Harold was taking and if that could possibly be affecting his awareness. He assured me that any confusion could not be caused by his medication. He also added that Harold had a fantastic day in therapy on Monday and that two different therapists had noticed improvements. I was very happy to hear that because I did feel that Harold was quite confused. It seems he has blocks of time where he's quite aware, and then there are times where he's utterly confused. His nurse assured me that this is common with his condition. Harold's recovery has leveled off a bit, but these types of plateaus are most often temporary stages. He's not so easily agitated as he was a couple weeks ago, so that is progress. I found that Harold really enjoyed looking out his window with me. I tried to engage him in conversations about how wonderful the sky looked and how beautiful the clouds were that day. He really responded great to that. He seemed to really enjoy talking about the beauty and awe of nature. I look forward to another visit with him soon and will update the web site if I hear anything new. Blessings to you all.
