8. IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM

1. City surfaces have become more puccas.
Rainwater recieved by pucca surfaces is sent to street nalas.
This tendency has given boost to total surface run off.
Ground percolation has reduced. For most of the activities, ground water is used but it is not being recharged.

By making city surfaces pucca, we have reduced our kachcha grounds which percolates water naturally to the ground. Need is to leave more natural ground.

2. Observation: - An open ground in front of our school, area approximately 4000 sqm, receives surface run off from more than 20 houses and roads around it, it gets flooded during heavy rainfall. But it absorbs the whole water with in 24 hrs if the day is dry and sunny.

With this we wanted to have more kuchcha grounds with faster rate of absorption.

To increase the absorption power of the soil we conducted an experiment.
