In early 2001, a large group of Chinese Shar-Pei owners in the Pacific Northwest found that there was no club to support the needs of the all 'round exhibitor-breeder-owner.  This group, after much discussion, decided to establish a club that would successfully meet the needs of a well-rounded group of experienced Shar-Pei fanciers.  In doing so, it was agreed by the membership that homage be paid to the local area's Native American heritage while selecting a name for this new club.

Nestled at the southern-most tip of Puget Sound is an area now known as "South Sound," in Lacey, Washington.  According to local Nisqually Indian folklore, this serene, protected bay was a neutral gathering place of several different tribes of Washington Indians, rich and plentiful for fishing and hunting.  These Northwest natives called this area "Harmony Bay."  From this rustic piece of folklore, we draw the name of our club:  Harmony Bay Chinese Shar-Pei Club, and we truly hope for a harmonious future.

In August 2001, Harmony Bay Chinese Shar-Pei Club was granted affiliated club status with the Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America - the first club granted this status since the admittance of Chinese Shar-Pei to the American Kennel Club in 1992.  We now host regional specialty shows on behalf of the CSPCA and are currently in the process of fulfilling the requirements for licensing by the American Kennel Club.  We invite you to join us!
