Chapter 1

Here he was, back in Harmony. It had been 7 years since he had been back. Not because he didn't want to, but cause his career demanded it. It wasn't all bad. He still got to see his family. They came up to visit him. His mother, Luis and Sheridan, who had married 5 years ago, their son Antonio, Theresa and her husband Ethan. It turns out that Ethan was really a Bennet, and when Gwen found out she dumped him. He and Ivy had been cast out of the Crane family. Sam and Grace's marriage had fallen apart after she found out.

Sam and Ivy now live happily together. Julian cast out Sheridan as well, but he couldn't touch her trust fund.

Anyway he was back. Miguel was now a budding attorney.. Who'd of thought he'd follow after Luis? Somewhat. Luis was now the head detective in Harmony. He pulled into his driveway. He opened the front door and yelled, "I'm home." No one answered. He searched the front room and opened the door to the kitchen.

"Welcome home!!!" His whole family was gathered in the kitchen waiting for him. "Hey you guys! I didn't think anyone was home."

Pilar hugged her son. "Of course we're home. To you think we would miss your homecoming?" Luis grabbed him in a huge bear hug. "How you doing bro?"

"Getting along I guess. Where's Theresa?"

They all looked around. It was Sheridan that said, "I think she went to the bathroom."

Miguel rolled his eyes and grinned. "I can't believe that."

Theresa walked in right then. "Oh my god!!! Miguel!" She screamed and ran up and hugged him.

Miguel returned her hug and pulled away. "Theresa! Your pregnant! When did that happen?"

Theresa smiled. "About seven moths ago. We wanted to surprise you." Ethan came up and wrapped his arm around her.

"Wow I can't believe how much things have changed." Miguel felt something pulling at his pant leg. He looked down and saw little 3 year old Antonio.

Miguel scooped him up in his arms. "Hey buddy what's happening?" Antonio

giggled, "Nothin' Uncle Mikki. I got a puppy."

Miguel smiled, "You did? Who got you that?"

"Mommy and Daddy."

"Miguel you must be starving. Come on let's eat." Pilar led them all outside for a barbque. After they ate, Miguel sat down with Ethan to talk shop. "So Ethan where do you practice now?"

"Well, with some money I had invested I opened my own practice. I like it a lot better. You know if you ever want to settle down in Harmony, there's a job waiting for you." "Thanks man. I might take you up on that some day."

The whole family gathered around to hear about what all happened in his life. "Well you all know about me and Charity. After we got to college she became a completely different person. Once she was away from her family she went wild. I think her whole personality was an act, so they would trust her and let her do whatever she wanted. I was crushed." Theresa grabbed his hand and held it, "I know how hard that was for you. I'm sorry, you thought she was the one. Have you found anyone else?"

"No. There's no one for me."

Luis laughed, "Don't say that man. Look at us. No one ever thought that me and Sheridan would get together, or Theresa and Ethan. There is someone for you, you just haven't found her yet."

"Thanks Luis." They all stayed up late talking about their lives. Ethan and Theresa had to leave early because she was tired. Sheridan put Antonio to bed in Luis's old room. Later they all left and Miguel fell into bed tiredly, but he couldn't sleep. He kept thinking about the falling out he and Charity had with Kay and Reese. It was a huge mess. Charity accused Kay of loving Miguel, and Reese accused Charity of play acting and leading Miguel on. They all went their separate ways right after graduation, and Miguel hadn't heard from them since. He wished that he would of listened to Reese. Miguel wondered what they were doing now. None of his family, nor the Bennett's had heard anything from them. He finally drifted off to sleep.

The next day he woke up early and went down to the Book Cafe and got some coffee and muffin and headed to the beach. He sat in the sand and watched the ocean, letting his thoughts wash over him. He heard laughter and turned to see who it was. There was a beautiful woman playing with a small blonde haired boy. It had to be her son. Miguel watched them for a while, then got up and drove to Luis's house.

When he got there he raised his hand to knock when he heard a crash, followed by a child's laugh. "Tony! No! Put momma's things down! Be careful." That was followed by another crash. Miguel laughed to himself and knocked.

Luis opened the door with Tony under his arm like a sack of potatoes, looking rough. "Bro! What's up? Come on in. Here take him." Luis handed over his son.

"Where's Sheridan at?" Miguel wanted to know.

Luis was picking up a box of toys Antonio knocked over, "Um, I think she went over to Ivy's for something. I don't know I can't remember I was half asleep." Luis sagged down into a chair. "I have zero energy man. He is like the battery bunny thing. He just keeps going."

Miguel smiled, "Little Tony here's giving you a run for your money, huh?"

Luis chuckled, "Yeah, he's worth it though."

"Luis, I'm glad you've finally found happiness. It makes me happy. Hey I wanted to ask you something, has anyone heard from Kay recently?" Luis shook his head sadly, "Nope. Not a word. Sam is pretty tore up about it."

"Did she give a reason for leaving?" Miguel asked.

"I think it was because she didn't feel loved. She felt like she was looked over." Miguel was relieved to find out it wasn't because of him.

Chapter 2

Just then Sheridan burst through the door with an armful of groceries. "Miguel! I'm so glad your here! I have important news for you, everyone actually." She bent down to and gave Luis a kiss. "Hey, handsome."

"Hey, yourself Crane."

Sheridan made a face at him, "That's Lopez-Fitzgerald to you." She hurried into the kitchen and set the bags down and ran back out. Luis looked at her worriedly, "What is it, babe?" She sat down beside Miguel and took Tony from him. "Well, I just came from Sam and Ivy's right? Well anyway she told me that they had an unexpected visitor."

Miguel waited for her to go on, "Well, who is it?"

Sheridan grabbed his hand, "It's Kay. She's back."

Miguel sat there in shock then jumped up, "I have to see her."

"Miguel, wait! There are some things you don't know about her." Miguel sat down slowly.

"What is it?"

"Well, when she ran away, Reese went with her right? They married, and they have a son."

"But that's great!"

"No Miguel, Reese was killed in a car crash last year. That is why she's back. She couldn't take it anymore. They were happy, Ivy said. Their marriage was wonderful, and she doesn't want to see you Miguel."

"Why! She can't still be mad about what all happened."

Sheridan was at a loss for words. "I don't know Miguel, all I know is that she doesn't want to se you. I'm sorry, honey. I didn't get to hear it all cause Ivy just got to talk to her for a minute."

Miguel got up and walked to the door, "I'll se you all later."

"Are you going to be alright, bro?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

Miguel drove back home to think.

At the Bennett house-

Sheridan had just left and Ivy left right after her. Kay had told Ivy a little bit of what had happened in her life, but Ivy had to leave before Sam came home.

"Kay! I can't believe you're back! It's so good to have your smiling face to lighten up this house." Kay smiled. "Thanks, Dad. I love you too." Sam kept hugging his daughter. He wasn't going to let her go again. Sam looked into his daughter's eyes, "How could you ever think I don't love you?"

Kay pulled away and sighed, "I don't know Dad. I was so confused and hurt when I left. I know that Mom didn't feel that same way about me. She always chose Charity over me."

"I'm so sorry for that." Kay hugged her dad again and tried to lighten things up.

"So what's happened since I've been gone?"

"Oh wow, where should I start?"

"How about our family, and why your married to Ivy Crane now."

"Ok. Years and years ago I used to date Ivy Crane," Kay's eyes widened, "she got pregnant and her family forced her to marry Julian. Well, that baby was Ethan. Yes, that's right Ethan is your half-brother."

"Oh my god. Why didn't you ever tell us?"

"I just found out myself a little while ago, when Ivy told me.""I have a brother! Wow."

"Well, after your mother found out, our marriage fell apart and we went our separate ways. Then I realized that I still loved Ivy. We were married 3 years ago."

Kay couldn't believe it, "Your kidding me right? I can't believe it!"

"Your not angry are you?"

"No dad! I think it's great! I have a whole new family."

Sam then filled her in on Luis and Sheridan and Theresa and Ethan."Wow, so much has changed. Sounds like everyone found the love of their life."

Sam approached the next subject carefully, "Honey, do you want to tell me about what happened with you." Kay immediately closed up, "Not right now dad. I'm not ready. Would you like to meet your grandson?"

Sam's eyes brighten, "You bet I would." Kay went and called her son from the back yard where he had be playing in their old sandbox. "Dad, this is William Reese Durkee. Will, this is your grandpa."

Sam picked him up and held him close to his heart. "How old is he?"

Kay smiled, "He's five. Go on say hi to your grandpa."

Will said shyly, "Hi, grandpa. I like your sandbox. It's like the beach."

Tear's sprung to Sam's eyes, "He beautiful." Kay had to keep herself from tearing up. "Dad, will you watch him while I take a nap? I'm exhausted. His toys are in the front room."

"Sure honey, go on up to bed."

Kay felt her father to bond with her son and went up to her old room. Ivy had left it just the way it was. God Bless her. Kay walked over to the wall with all the pictures. They were mostly of her and her friends. In almost everyone she was looking at Miguel. Kay turned away with tears streaming down her face. She was so stupid! Why couldn't she of seen how Reese was. He was a good man, and once she got Miguel out of her head, she had learned to love Reese. They had a good marriage and it felt like her heart was ripped in half since he was gone.

She laid down and tried to sleep, but she couldn't. She kept thinking about how she told Ivy she didn't want to see Miguel. 'Oh why did he have to come home when I did?' she thought. She started thinking about tomorrow and all the people she would have to see. It scared her. Reese was her security, she just let him call all the shots and followed. Now she had to do things for herself. The one thing that scared her was seeing Miguel again. She was afraid if she saw him, she would realize that she still loved him. Kay couldn't take having to see him with Charity either. That girl was the bane of her life.

Chapter 3

The next day Kay woke up late and wondered down stairs. Everyone was in the kitchen. Sam was sitting at the table coloring with Will and Ivy was actually making breakfast. Ivy saw her first, "Hi, honey. How are you?" She put a comforting arm around Kay's shoulders and lead her to the table. "You just sit right here and I'll make you anything you want. What would you like?" "Go with something simple, I wouldn't want you getting food poisoning your second day back. She isn't as good as she thinks," Sam said teasing his wife. Ivy glared at him, "You eat it." Sam laughed and got up to wrap his arms around his wife, "I love your cooking, baby. No matter how bad it is."

Ivy laughed and playfully hit him. Kay watched them with envy. "You guys look so great together." Ivy smiled, "Thank you, dear."

After they had breakfast they all got dressed and tried to decide what to do. Kay spoke first, "I would like to walk around Harmony by myself. Would you guys mind watching Will?" Ivy bent down to pick him up, "Not at all! We have a lot of catching up to do with him. You go on and do what you have to."

Kay started walking not knowing where she was going. She ran into Theresa.

"Oh my God! Kay! I can't believe your here."

"Theresa! I can't believe your pregnant! How are you?"

"Oh I'm fine. Just out walking. My doctor said it was good for the baby.

Come on, lets go to the Book Cafe and get a donut." Kay laughed and they headed off to the Cafe like a couple of gossiping school girls.

When they got there Theresa got her donut and they sat on one of the couches. "I swear, I am always hungry now and for the weirdest things."

Kay smiled, "Yeah when I was pregnant with Will, I couldn't get enough peanut butter."

Theresa gasped, "You have a son?!"

"Yes, his name is Will. I forget that no one knows anything about me." So Kay filled Theresa in on all the things that happened to her. For some reason it was so easy to talk to her. "I used to send Reese out at three in the morning for ice cream," Kay broke off in a sob, "I miss him so much."

Kay started crying and Theresa held her. "It's ok. Let it all out. Shhh, your ok."

Kay finally got herself under control and gave Theresa a watery smile.

"Thank you for listening."

Theresa handed her a tissue, "It's no problem. Hey you should go over to my house. Miguel is there. I remember you guys were close." Kay started shaking her head venomously. "I can't Theresa, I just can't." Theresa frowned, "But why?"

Kay then told her all about her love for Miguel and the fight. "When Charity accused me of loving Miguel, I could see the doubt in his eyes. I thought he would hate me for it so I ran. Reese ran with me. I just can't face seeing him again. What if my feelings return? I'll be betraying Reese.

Plus, I loathe Charity."

Theresa understood what Kay was saying. "I know just how you feel, but Miguel isn't with Charity. They split up in college." Theresa told her everything that Miguel had told her. "I just don't know, Theresa. I feel like I'm betraying Reese."

"Let me ask you something Kay. Did you love Reese?"

"Yes of course."

"Did you make each other happy?"

"Yes we did."

"What do you think he would of wanted for Will."

"For him to be happy. For both of us to be happy."

"Who better can you think of for a step-father than Miguel? He's kind and loving. He can tell Will things about his dad when he gets older. I think Reese would approve."

"Your right Theresa. But what if Miguel still doesn't want me?"

Theresa looked into her eyes, "Well, you'll never know until you ask." They parted ways and Kay walked down to the beach at her favorite spot.

Chapter 4

Kay sat in the sand wondering what to do. How could she possibly face Miguel after all these years. She couldn't believe he was a lawyer. He had done so well for himself. She couldn't help feeling guilty for her feelings. Just when she was feeling as low as she could get, she heard a car door slam.

Miguel couldn't stay away from the beach. It was his haven. He was walking toward his favorite spot when he noticed someone in it. It was the same beautiful woman he had seen earlier.

Kay breath caught in her throat when she realized it was Miguel walking towards her. 'It's now or never.' Kay realized. She got up slowly and walked towards him. "Hello, Miguel"

It took Miguel only two seconds to realize it was Kay. "Kay! I'll so glad your here. I was afraid you would never talk to me again." Kay smiled, "Well I talked to your sister and she helped me get past my fears. Do you know about what happened?"

Miguel sighed, "Yeah. I'm so sorry about Reese. He was a good man. I just found out or I would of been at the funeral. He was like a brother to me."

"Thank you so much Miguel. I understand about everything. Half of it was my fault. I never should of been so stubborn about staying away. He wanted to come back, but I didn't."

Kay tried to brighten the mood, "So hey, I hear your a big shot attorney now." Miguel laughed. "Hardly. Struggling is more like it. Ethan offered me a job in his practice. If I decide to stay here in Harmony I'm going to take it."

"Hey, that's great. I heard about everyone getting together. Isn't that something?"

"Yeah, it's great."

Kay and Miguel made some more small talk and filled each other in on their lives. By the end of the night, they were just as close as they used to be.

Miguel walked her back to her father's house. "Hey Miguel, there's just one more thing I need to tell you."

"What is it Kay? Are you all right?"

"I'm fine Miguel. This is hard for me so I'm just going to say it. I've always loved you, Miguel."

Miguel stood there in shock. "Did I hear you right, Kay?" Kay looked at the ground and mumbled, "Yes." Miguel reached over and lifted her chin up, "Kay, look at me." Kay looked into Miguel's eyes. As soon as she did Miguel leaned in a kissed her softly on the lips. When they ended the kiss, Kay spoke first. "Miguel, am I dreaming?"

"No, this is real Kay. We have been apart for far too long. I was blinded by Charity, I'm so sorry for hurting you." Kay couldn't believe this was happening. She was happy that they were finally together, but she felt like she was cheating on Reese. "Miguel, you have to believe me. I do love you, but I just can't be with you." With that she ran into the house and left Miguel standing alone on her porch.

Kay went and checked on Will, and climbed into bed that night feeling sick to her stomach. But surprisingly she drifted off to sleep easily. She wasn't asleep long before she started to dream.

She and Will were playing in a park when they heard a familiar voice, "Come here kiddo!" Kay whipped around and saw Reese standing there. 'How can this be?' she thought. Will went running to his father. Kay walked slowly over to Reese. "What are you doing here? I can't believe it! I missed you so much."

She threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly. "Kay I know what's been going on." Kay's eyes widened. "You do? Listen Reese you have to know that I love you, and I will never stop."

"I know you do. I have no doubts of your love, but listen to me. You have to go on with your life. I know you love Miguel. I want you to be happy, and you have my blessing. Thank you for filling my life with joy and love. You made my life mean something, and I will never forget you. I can't think of anyone better I would want to raise my son than Miguel. He loves you and you belong together." Kay couldn't believe what she was hearing. All of a sudden Reese was starting to fade, "I love you, Reese." As he was fading away, Kay heard, "I love you too, now go after him."

Kay woke up feeling peaceful. "Thank you, Reese." She jumped out of bed and got dressed hurriedly and got Will ready. "Where are we going, mommy?"

"We are going to see and old friend of mine. His name is Miguel, and he used to be best friends with your daddy."

Will's eyes widened, "He did?! Do you think he would tell me stories of him?" Kay crouched down so she was level with him, "I bet a million bucks he will."

They hurried downstairs and walked to the Lopez-Fitzgerald house. She knocked on the door and Pilar answered. "Kay, hello. How are you?" Kay smiled at Miguel's mother, "Hello, Pilar. I'm doing great. Is Miguel home?"

"No Kay he went to Lighthouse park. He should still be there is you want to go after him."

"Ok. Thank you, I'll try there." As Kay walked away with her son, Pilar smiled knowingly.

When they got to the park, Kay found Miguel right away. She walked over and sat next to him. "Kay. I thought you hated me."

"I could never hate you, Miguel. I was just scared. I felt like I was betraying Reese. Don't think I'm going psycho or anything, but Reese visited me in a dream last night. He told me he wanted me to be happy and if you made me happy than to go for you. Well, here I am."

Miguel sat and listened to her and finally said, "I know I can make you happy, Kay. If you'll have me, I'm yours." Kay hugged Miguel closely and sighed, "I love you. We're going to be so happy together, but first you have to meet someone. This is my son, Will." Miguel sat Will in his lap and started to tell him about his father. They sat there in the park for what seemed like hours. When it got late they took Will back to Sam and Ivy's.

"Hey you guys. What have you been doing all day?" Will ran over to Ivy and she scooped him up,"What have you been up to little man?"

"Grandma! Miguel told me stories about daddy. It was fun." Ivy looked over at Miguel and Kay. It was obvious they were in love, "You two go on. We'll take care of Will." Sam looked at Ivy puzzled, "What's going on?" Ivy rolled her eyes "Sometimes men are so blind. I'll tell you later dear."

Miguel and Kay walked hand in hand to 'their' spot on the beach. Miguel sat first and Kay sat in between his legs, laying against him. "So what now Miguel?"

"Well I might take that job with Ethan here in Harmony, but only on one condition."

Kay frowned, "What's that?"

"If you stay here with me."

Kay turned around, "Are you asking what I think you are?"

"Yes. Kay will you make your life here with me as my wife?"

Kay threw her arms around him and said, "Finally." Miguel laughed, "Is that a yes?"

"Yes! Yes, you silly boy."

They sat like that for hours just talking and sitting. Then Kay asked, "Miguel, will you love me for the rest of my life?"

"No." Kay turned around sharply and had a crestfallen look on her face.

Miguel then smiled, "I'll love you for the rest of mine."
