Chapter 1

"Mrs. Crane! It's great to have you back." Pilar says as Ivy walks through the door. "She's beautiful." Pilar remarks, referring to the baby in Ivy's arms.

"Thank you, Pilar. Where's Ethan?"

"He and Theresa went to dinner and they should be back soon. They will be surprised to see you home. No one really understood why you left, except me."

"Thank you for not telling anyone the truth. If anyone knew that I left because I was pregnant with Sam Bennett's baby, disaster would definately strike."

"What are you going to do when Sam sees the baby? Don't you think he'll know that it's his daughter?"

"He doesn't know that Ethan is his son. I have to keep it from him. Alistair would hurt him and Samantha if he knew." Pilar and Ivy stop their discussion as Julian enters the room.

"Well, if it isn't my estranged wife. This must be my daughter." Julian says as he looks down at the sleeping baby.

"Yes, Julian. This is your....your daughter, Samantha Marie Winthrop Crane." Ivy hates pretending that her precious daughter belongs to Julian but she has to do it to protect her. After she found out that she was pregnant, she had to sleep with Julian to make it seem like he was the father.

"How lovely. Well anyways, I have a meeting." Julian says as he exits the mansion.

*The Next Day*
"Good morning, Mrs. Crane." Theresa says as she enters the Crane mansion.

"Hi, Theresa. I was just on my way out. I have a doctor's appointment to go to." Ivy says as she goes over to the cradle to wake Samantha up.

"I can watch Samantha for you while you go so you don't have to wake her up."

"You would? That would be great, Theresa."

"Sure, no problem. I have to run back to my house to meet Ethan, so maybe you can pick her up from there." Theresa suggests.

"Ok. I shouldn't be too long. It's just a check up." Ivy gives instructions to Theresa about Samantha and then leaves. Theresa takes Samantha back to her house to meet Ethan.

*At the Lopez-Fitzgerald House* "She's so adorable." Ethan says as he holds his baby sister in his lap.

"Yes she is." Theresa and Ethan are interrupted by someone knocking on the door.

"I'll get it." Ethan says as he goes to the door to answer it with Samantha in his arms. "Chief Bennett. What can I do for you?" Ethan asks as he opens the door.

"Actually, I came to see Luis. Is he here?" Sam asks.

"Nope. Theresa said that he should be back soon. Come on in."

"Thanks. By the way, who's baby is that?"

"Oh, this is my sister, Samantha." Sam is shocked and confused.

"Your sister?"

"Yeah. It turns out that my mom was pregnant when she left town and she just got back yesterday. Theresa and I are watching her while my mother is at the doctor."

"She sure is a cutie." Sam says as he follows Ethan into the living room and sits on the couch.

"Would you like anything to eat?" Theresa asks Ethan and Sam.

"Sure. What are you making?" Ethan asks.

"Nothing fancy, just salad."

"Sounds great."

"None for me, thanks." Sam politely declines. Theresa goes into the kitchen. Sam and Ethan talk for a while and then they hear a scream from the kitchen. They get up and run into the kitchen.

"Theresa, what's the matter?" Ethan asks.

"I cut my finger." Theresa shows her finger to them.

"Sam, can you hold Samantha while I look at her finger more closely?" Ethan asks. Sam nods his head and takes Samantha from Ethan's arms. "I think this may need stitches." Ethan says as he examines her finger. "Let's get you to the hospital." Ethan turns to Sam. "Can you watch her until my mother comes to pick her up? I don't want to take her to the hospital."

"Sure, Ethan. No problem." Theresa and Ethan leave and Sam takes Samantha into the family room and sits on the couch with her. He holds her in his arms and she looks up at him. She has Ivy's eyes. He thinks to himself.
She starts to fuss so he stands up and rocks her back and forth. He puts her over his shoulder and gently rubs her back trying to calm her. She stops crying and before he knows it, she's fast asleep. Sam still can't believe that he is holding Ivy's baby in his arms. It makes him remember the night that he and Ivy had shared at the ski lodge.

*Flashback*

Sam read the note again: Meet me in our room for a little surprise. The door will be unlocked and the lights will be off. Don't turn on the lights. "Grace, I'm coming up." Sam says to himself as he takes the elevator upstairs. He gets out and walks towards his room. He opens the door and goes inside. The lights are off, just like the note said. He practically runs toward the bed, discarding his clothing on the way. He crawls in bed next to the warm body lying there and wraps his arms around her and begins to kiss her. She returns his hungry kisses with intense force. He opens his eyes and looks up at her.

"Ivy! What the hell are you doing here?" Sam asks, still staying in the bed.

"I think you know damn well what I'm doing. I know that you want me, Sam. Just give in." Ivy says as she runs her hands up his chest. Sam tries to resist, but he can't. He grabs her and pulls her into a passionate kiss.
Their kisses become more demanding with each passing second. Sam doesn't know what he's doing. He can't help himself. Even though he has denied it for so long, he has wanted nothing more than to make love to her again.
"Make love to me, Sam." Ivy says, almost reading his thoughts. "Ok. But we have to go back to your room." Sam gives in. He carries her back to her room and they make passionate love.

Afterwards:
Sam gets out of bed and gets his clothes on. He looks back at Ivy, who is sleeping. "What have I done?" He asks himself. He sits on the bed and tries to wake Ivy up.

"Hmm? What is it, Sam?" She asks as she opens her eyes.

"We need to talk, Ivy. What happened, just now, Grace can never find out. You have to promise me that you won't tell her. We need to pretend that this never happened."

"Okay, Sam. I won't tell anyone." Ivy's heart was breaking. They look into each other's eyes before Sam leaves. It's obvious that they still want each other. The love still burns in their eyes. After a couples minutes, Sam gets up and leaves. Ivy just sits in her bed crying.

*End of Flashback*

Sam's daydream is interrupted by someone knocking on the door. He gets up to answer it.

"Ivy." Sam says as he opens the door.

Chapter 2

Ivy is startled to see Sam open the door with her daughter in his arms.

"Sam. What are you doing here?" Ivy asks as she walks inside the Lopez-Fitzgerald house.

"I came to talk to Luis. Theresa cut her finger and Ethan took her to the hospital. He didn't want to take your daughter with him, so I said I'd watch her." They can't help but stare into each other's eyes. They hadn't really spoken since the night that they had shared. Three months later, Sam had finally gotten the nerve to talk to her about what had happened between them, but she had left town.

"Thank you for watching her for me. I hope she wasn't a problem."

"Not at all. She was an angel." Sam still holds Samantha in his arms, not wanting to let her go. He doesn't know why, but he feels a strong connection to the baby. "So, ah, how have you been, Ivy?" He asks, trying to stall so he could hold the child for a little while longer.

"I've been great, well after my little girl was born. She's everything to me. How have you been?" She asks. She notices Sam's reluctance in handing over her sleeping daughter. She decides to let it pass and to let him hold her. She wants nothing more than to tell him the truth. To tell him that he's holding his little girl. But she can't, for her baby's sake, as well as his.

"Ive been good." He thinks it's best not to tell her that his marriage to Grace has been quickly crumbling since the ski lodge. He never told Grace the truth, but he distanced himself from her, and after a while, she had done the same. They were now on the brink of divorce, especially after the way Grace harshly treated their daughter, Kay. Every little thing Grace did got on his nerves. He soon found himself comparing her to Ivy. "Can I ask you a question, Ivy?"

"Sure, Sam. What is it?"

"Why did you leave?" Ivy looks down and then at Samantha before gazing into Sam's eyes.

"I got pregnant and I didn't want to stay here with all of the pressure. I thought that it would be best to go away until she was born." She told him the truth. She did leave because she was pregnant. She just chose to leave out the fact that she was carrying his child.

"Where'd you go?" Sam didn't believe all of her story. Something in his heart told him that she wasn't giving him the whole truth.

"I went to England. I have some friends up there and I stayed with them." Before he could ask her another question, Samantha started crying as she woke up. "Good morning, sunshine." Ivy says in a soft tone as she rushes over to Sam and looks at her daughter. She caresses the top her head and then kisses it. "Did you sleep well, sweetheat?" Sam decides to hand her over to Ivy, even though he doesn't want to. He can see that she loves her daughter a lot and he watches the two of them. Ivy is gently rubbing her daughter's back, just as Sam had done ealier. "Well, I better get her home." She says as she walks into the lving room looking for Samantha's things.

"Here." Sam hands the diaper bag to her and their hands touch. The electricity is obvious in their touch.

"Thank you. Goodbye, and thanks again." She leaves the Lopez-Fitzgerald home and Sam sits on the couch to think.

"What was it about Ivy and her daughter?" He asks himself. He gets an idea and leaves for the station.

=============================

"Where have you been?" Julian asks as Ivy walks into the living room carrying Samantha.

"Not that I have to explain my whereabouts to you, but I had a doctor's appointment." Ivy replies as she puts her purse and the diaper bag on the table.

"Oh. You did remember the benifit tonight?"

"What benefit?"

"The one that I told you about last night before you went to sleep."

"You never told me about a benefit." She accuses.

"Well, there's a benefit tonight, and as my wife, you will accompany me."

"I will not! Where am I supposed to leave Samantha?"

"We do have a new nanny. We'll just leave her with her."

"No we won't! I'm not leaving my child with someone that I don't know. You can go to the benefit. I'll stay with my daughter."

"You will do nothing of the sort! You are going with me and that's final." Julian demands as he leaves the room. Ivy doesn't feel comfortable with leaving her innocent daughter with someone she doesn't know. Ivy's thoughts are interrupted by Sheridan.

"Ivy! It's so great to see you!" Sheridan says as she runs up and hugs her. "Ethan told me you were back. How are you?"

"Sheridan, it's great to see you. I'm fine, how about you?"

"I'm great. Is this my little niece, Samantha?" Sheridan asks, referring to the baby in Ivy's arms.

"Yes it is. Would you like to hold her?"

"I would love to." Ivy hands Samantha over to Sheridan. "She's adorable."

"Yes she is. By the way, I heard about your engagement to Luis. Congratulations, Sheridan. I knew that you two were meant to be."

"Thanks, Ivy. I couldn't be happier." As Ivy watches Sheridan bond with her daughter, she gets an idea.

"Are you doing anything tonight?"

"Not really. Luis and I were just going to watch a movie or something. Why?"

"Well, I was wondering if you guys would watch Samantha for me tonight. Julian's forcing me to go to this benefit and I don't want to leave her with a stranger."

"Of course, Ivy. We'd be happy to."

==============================

Sam sits at his computer typing away at the keyboard. He is searching for anything that he can find out about Ivy. He figures out a way to get into her medical records. The first thing he comes across is actually information on Ethan. His birth certificate comes up and something catches his attention. It was Ethan's name. It says "Ethan Samuel B. Winthrop Crane". He is confused, but pushes his suspicions aside to work on the task at hand. Since he's not getting much by looking up Ivy's name, he decides to try Samantha's. At first he doesn't find out much, but then he sees her birth certificate. He feels like a thief breaking into a house. After reading her birth certificate he is even more confused. Her name reads: Samantha Marie B. Winthrop Crane. At this, he pulls up the birth certificates of Ivy's other children. They read: Elizabeth Renee Crane, Olivia Paige Crane, and John Alexander Crane. "What the hell is going on?" He asks himself.

Chapter 3

Sam leaves the police station. He can't stop thinking about the birth certificates. Something just doesn't seem right about them. He tries to push it out of his head and drives home. He goes inside to find Grace arguing with Kay. Over the past few months, this has become a familiar scene for Sam to come home to.

"Why do you hate me?!" Kay screams with tears streaming down her face.

"I'm so sick of your behavior, Kay! Why can't you be more like Charity?" That statement makes Kay run off to her bedroom in sobs.

"That was uncalled for, Grace." Sam breaks in after Kay is out of sight.

"I don't think it was. I'm sick of her attitude, Sam. She should be more like Charity. Charity never does anything wrong. Kay's a problem child."

"How can you say that about your own daughter? Charity's your niece and I understand that you love her, but Kay is your daughter. Every time you say that to her, you just make things worse." "Whatever, Sam. I don't have time to listen to this, I have to get ready for the police benefit. When are we leaving?" Grace asks as she starts to walk up the stairs. "In about an hour." Shortly after Grace leaves, Sam goes up the stairs and goes into Kay's room. "Honey? Are you okay?" He asks as he sits on her bed.

"I'm fine, Dad. I'm used to it by now." She says as she puts her head down.

"I know it hurts you, honey. I just want you to know that I love you more than anything and Charity could never take your place in my heart." He smiles at her and Kay smiles back and gives him a hug. Sam leaves her room and gets ready for the benefit.

==============================
"Are you ready to go, Ivy?" Julian asks as he comes into the living room and pours himself a brandy.

"Yes. I just need to take Samantha over to Luis and Sheridan's." Ivy says as she picks up the baby.

"Fine, but hurry up." Ivy takes Samantha to Luis and Sheridan's house and then her and Julian leave for the benefit.

==============================

At the Benefit:
Julian and Ivy are seated with the Russells and the Bennetts. Everyone is surprised to see Ivy there because they hadn't heard that she had come back into town.

"So, Ivy, how have you been?" Grace asks, putting on her phony behavior.

"I've been great. Things haven't changed much since I've been gone."

"No, they haven't. So, where'd you go off to?" Eve asks her. Before Ivy can answer, Julian cuts in.

"My wife went to England to have a baby." It's obvious to everyone that Julian has had one too many brandy's already. Grace, TC, and Eve look at each other in confussion. Sam is the only other one at the table, besides Julian and Ivy, that know about the baby.

"A baby? I didn't even know that you were pregnant."

"Yes, I was a few months pregnant when I left town."

"My wife is so obsessed with her new baby. If you thought she was overprotective of Ethan, you should see how she is with Samantha. She won't even let me hold her, her own father!" Ivy tries to get him to stop talking, but he just keeps going on. "Maybe it's some secret. Do you have a deep dark secret, Ivy?" He asks. He turns his attention to the Bennetts and Russells. "She didn't even tell me about the baby until she was 7 months pregnant. Maybe the baby's father is actually the gardener's or her personal trainer's." He looks back at Ivy. "I wouldn't put it past you, being the slut that you are."

"Julian, knock it off." Ivy warns. Julian ignores her again and keeps going.

"Well it's the truth, Ivy dear. Why not share the truth with the Bennetts and the Russells?" He asks as he gulps another brandy. Over the months that Ivy was gone, Julian became an alcoholic. After numerous failed attempts at breaking up Sheridan and Luis, he gave up. The only thing Julian does now is drink.

"Go to hell, Julian." Ivy says as she gets up and leaves. Julian just starts laughing and they all stare at him with disgust.

==============================

Ivy takes a taxi over to Luis and Sheridan's. She gets out and knocks on the door.

"Ivy, you're back early." Sheridan says as she invites her inside.

"Yes, well, Julian got out of hand. I didn't realize his drinking had gotten that bad."

"That's all he does is drink. What'd he do now?" Sheridan leads Ivy into the living room. Ivy sees Luis rocking Samantha in the rocking chair.

"I don't want to get into the details. Let's just say that he made a fool out of me in front of everyone."

"I'm sorry. He does that a lot, now. Why don't you and Samantha stay the night? Julian needs to sleep it off and it's probably best that you don't stay in the same house as him."

"No, Sheridan. I wouldn't want to impose."

"You wouldn't be imposing." Luis cuts in. "We'd love to have you. Besides, I think I'm attached to this little cutie."

"Uh-oh, Sheridan. It looks like Luis is going to want to have a baby soon."

"Well, than I guess I'll have to give one to him." Sheridan says as she smiles at Luis. Sheridan gets the bed set up for Ivy in the guest bedroom and they lay Samantha in the playpin that Ivy had brought over. Ivy can't sleep, so she tells Luis and Sheridan that she's going for a walk. She leaves the house and finds herself at the beach.

==============================

Sam and Grace get home and Grace goes straight to bed. Sam sits on the couch and thinks the way Julian treated Ivy. He tries to lay down and go to sleep, but he can't. He can't keep his mind off of Ivy. "I'm going for a walk. Maybe it'll help me clear my head." Sam says to himself as he walks out of the house. When he arrives at the beach, he sees a figure sitting in the sand. As he approaches, he notices that it's Ivy. He comes up to her and sits down in the vacant spot next to her.

"Hey, Ivy."

"Sam, what are you doing here?"

"Just thinking. What about you?"

"The same." Sam decides that it's time to ask her about the birth certificates. 'It's now or never.' He thinks to himself.

"Can I ask you something?" Ivy looks at him.

"What is it?"

"It's about Samantha and Ethan's birth certificates." Ivy stares at him in confussion. As she's about to ask what he wants to know about them, her cell phone rings. She picks it up and answers it.

"Hello?"

"Ivy, where are you?"

"Julian, what do you want?"

"I need to talk to you. It's about Father. He's not very happy with you." Ivy could tell that he was still drunk.

"I don't care if Alistair's happy with me." Ivy yells into the phone.

"He can destroy you, Ivy, and your precious Ethan and Samantha. I suggest you come home." Julian threatens. The thought of Alistair hurting her children terrifies her, so she gives in.

"Okay, Julian, but I don't have a car." She says, trying to stall.

"I'll send a car to come pick you up. Are you staying at Luis and Sheridan's?"

"Yes."

"Okay. The car will be there shortly. I want you and the baby to be ready." Julian hangs up the phone before Ivy can protest.

"I have to go, Sam." Ivy says as she puts her cell phone away.

"Is everything okay?" Sam asks, concerned about her.

"Everything's fine. I'll talk to you later." Before Sam can say another word, Ivy leaves and heads back to Luis and Sheridan's. She goes inside and gets Samantha and her things together. She tells Sheridan and Luis that she's leaving, and then waits for the car. She hears the car approach and she goes outside. She buckles up Samantha in the back and then climbs in next to her. The car starts to move, but something doesn't seem right. The car is swerving, as if it's being driven by a drunk. Then it clicks in her head.

"Julian?" She asks. The driver takes his hat off and turns around.

"Hello, Ivy." Julian just keeps laughing.

"You're drunk, Julian. Stop the car and let me drive." Ivy is starting to get scared as they keep swerving uncontrollably.

"I can drive just fine. I am not drunk, dear." Julian says as he turns around to look at her again. Before Ivy can warn him to look out, it's too late. The car drives off the side of the dark road and it all goes black....

Chapter 4

"Where is my mother and sister?" Ethan asks as he and Theresa come through the hospital doors.

"The doctors are working on them." Sheridan tells him while placing a reassuring hand on his arm.

"What the hell happened?"

"It was Julian. He was drunk." Ethan feels his rage threaten to boil over.

"Where is he?!"

"He's in jail. He left without a scratch on him."

"I'll kill him."

"Ethan, you need to calm down. He'll get what he deserves, I'll make sure of it." Sam tells him. Their conversation is interrupted when Eve comes out into the waiting room. "Eve, what's going on?" Sam asks as he rushes up to her.

"Ivy's stabilizing, but Samantha has lost a lot of blood. We need to give her a blood transfusion, but we would prefer it to be from a parent. We tested Ivy's blood type and it's type AB+. Samantha's blood type is type AB-, which means that she must have the same as Julian." Pilar's eyes widen in fear. "Sam, do you think you could go down to the police station and get Julian? She needs the transfusion immediately." Sam nods. He's about to leave when Pilar stops him.

"His blood type isn't the same as Samantha's. She has her father's blood type." Everyone looks at her with confused expressions.

"Yes, Pilar, we know. That's why we're going to get blood from Julian. He's her father." Sam starts to leave again.

"You don't understand, he's not her father."

"What do you mean he's not her father? If he's not her father, than who is?"

"You are." Everyone looks at him in complete shock.

"Wh-what? I'm her father?"

"Yes. I'll explain everything to you later. Right now, you should go give blood to your daughter." Sam nods and he and Eve walk towards the lab.

"Ethan, what's the matter?" Theresa asks him when she notices the look of confussion in his face.

"Theresa, do you remember a couple of months ago when I gave blood?"

"Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?"

"They tested my blood to see what type it was and it was type AB-, which means that Julian Crane isn't my father."

==============================

"So, Sam, how long has this affair with Ivy Crane been going on?" Eve asks as she gets him ready to give blood.

"That's not fair, Eve. I didn't know that Samantha was my daughter. I won't say it was a mistake by sleeping with Ivy because we created a beautiful little girl that night. Please don't tell Grace, Eve. I'll tell her myself."

"Ok, Sam. But do it quick." Sam nods. He knew something hadn't been right before, and now he knew why. He felt that connection to Samantha because she was his little girl. 'Her and Ivy have to be okay'. He thinks to himself. 'I can't live without either of them.'

Chapter 5

Theresa just stares at Ethan. She hates to see him suffering and wants nothing more than to comfort him and take away his pain.

"Are you sure, Ethan?"

"It has to be true, Theresa. I don't have my mother's blood type or Julian's. The only thing that makes sense is that Julian isn't my father."

"If he's not your father, does that mean Sam Bennett is?" Ethan looks up at her.

"He can't be, it's impossible. My mother didn't even know him when I was born."

"Are you sure, Ethan? It would make sense." Ethan sits down and burries his head in his hand. Theresa sits next to him and places a reassuring hand on his back.

"I don't know anymore. My mother is the only one that can answer that. Can you keep this quiet until she wakes up?"

"Of course, Ethan. I won't tell a soul." Theresa promises. Pilar notices them deep in conversation. She is worried that Ethan will discover the truth about his paternity. If that were to happen, all hell would break loose when Alistair finds out.

==============================

"I ran some tests on your blood to make sure you were Samantha's father." Eve begins as she comes back into the lab. "There is no doubt about it. Samantha is your daughter. We're going to give her the blood right now and she should be okay." Eve tells him, before leaving the room. Sam just stays on the bed, thinking to himself about everything that has happened in the past two days. Now he faces his hardest mission. He has to tell Grace, Kay, and Jessica the truth. He decides that it is best to wait until he knows that Ivy and Samantha are okay. He leaves the room and sees Pilar and decides to go talk to her. Earlier she told him that she would explain things to him about his daughter.

"Pilar, can I talk to you?"

"Of course. I'm assume that you want to know about Samantha."

"Yes."

"Well, after the night that you and Ivy shared, she found out that she was pregnant. She was afraid of what Julian might do if he found out, so she decided to leave to protect you and the baby. Before she left, she slept with him so it would seem that it was his child."

"What am I going to do Pilar? I have to tell Grace and our marriage will probably be over."

"I believe that lies will only lead to pain. If Ivy would have told you the truth from the beginning, it would have saved a lot of people from years of pain and none of this ever would have happened." Pilar realizes that she made a mistake, but it is too late to take back what she had said.

"What do you mean 'save a lot of people from years of pain'? It hasn't even been a year since Ivy got pregnant. Are you hiding something else, Pilar?"

"Of course not."

"I don't believe you. You've never been someone to lie. Please, tell me the truth." Sam pleads with her.

"Ok. I'll tell you the truth. It's about Ethan. He's your son."

==============================

Eve goes into Ivy's room to check on her. She checks her vitals and then hears a soft moan.

"The baby, I have to get the baby...." Ivy says as she begins to wake up.

"Ivy? It's Eve. Can you hear me?" Eve asks as she sits in the chair next to her bed.

"Eve? Where am I? Where's Samantha?" She asks as she begins to become aware of her surroundings.

"You're in a hospital. Samantha lost a lot of blood, so we gave her a blood transfusion from her father. She should be okay." Ivy's eyes widen in panic and she quickly sits up in the bed.

"NO! Julian's not her father! His blood will kill her! You have to help her, Eve!"

"Shh...It's okay, Ivy. I know. Sam's her father and we got the blood from him."

"S..S..Sam? He knows? But how?"

"Pilar. When I told them we needed Julian's blood to save your daughter, she told us the truth. I'm going to go tell everyone that you're awake." Eve leaves the hospital room and Ivy lays back against the pillows. She is still trying to registir everything in her head.

"Sam, Pilar. Ivy's awake." Eve says as she interrupts their conversation about Ethan's paternity. Sam and Pilar walk towards Ivy's room as Eve tells Ethan and Theresa.

Chapter 6

Ivy sits in the bed, terrified. Now Sam knows the truth about their daughter. She doesn't know if she's prepared to face him. The door opens and Pilar, Sam, Ethan, and Theresa come in, followed by Dr. Russell. Ethan rushes to her side and grabs her hand. Sam and Pilar stand near the door.

"Mother, are you alright?"

"I'll be okay, Ethan." Ivy assures him. She looks up at Dr. Russell and notices the look in her eyes. "Eve, what is it?"

"It's your daughter. She's growing weaker."

"No! I have to go see her!" Ivy yells as she begins to cry.

"I don't know if it's such a good idea for you to get out of bed. You're still very weak."

"I don't care what happens to me. I just want to see my little girl and let her know that I'm here for her. I have to see her." Ivy begins to get out of bed but stumbles backwards.

"Mother, Dr. Russell is right. You're too weak. You need to stay in bed." Ethan tells her.

"I said that I didn't care and I meant it! I'm going to see my daughter and no one is going to stop me." She gets out of bed and holds her balance as best as she can. Everyone just lets her go, knowing that if they argue with her she won't let it go until she sees Samantha. Ivy makes her way towards the door and then begins to fall again when Sam catches her. They look into each other's eyes and Ivy gains her balance again. She doesn't want to leave his arms, but she has to make sure her daughter is okay.

==============================

"You fool, Julian!" Alistair says to Julian on the phone. Julian, who is still in jail, decided to use his one phone call to call his father and see if he could get him out.

"Father, it's no big deal."

"No big deal?! Like hell! You were driving drunk with your wife and three week old daughter in the car! If either of them die, you're going up on murder charges and any jury would convict you! Not only are you Julian Crane, but a child's life is in jeopardy. I'll help you as best I can, but that's all I can do. Goodbye, Julian." Alistair says as he hangs up the phone and leaves Julian to go back to his prison cell.

==============================

Dr. Russell leads Ivy into Samantha's room. Ivy looks down at her daughter and tears form in her eyes. She is in an incubator and there are machines hooked up to her tiny body. Ivy reaches her hand through the small and touches her daughter's face. Suddenly, Ivy feels someone's hands on her shoulder. She looks back and sees that it's Sam. She begins to cry and he pulls her close, wrapping his arms around her.

"She has to be okay, Sam." Ivy manages to get out through sobs. "I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you that she was your daughter."

"Shhh...It's going to be okay. Our little girl will be okay and then we'll figure this whole thing out." Sam, too, begins to cry at the thought of his daughter dying.

==============================

"Eve, is Sam here?" Grace asks as she walks into the hospital waiting room.

"Grace, What are you doing here?"

"I needed to ask Sam something. I called the station and they said he was down here." Before Eve can answer her, she gets a page and has to run off. Grace goes up to the front desk and asks the receptionist if she knows where Sam is.

"Yes, ma'am, I did see your husband. He went into Samantha Crane's room." The receptionist says as she points her in the direction of the room. Grace thanks her and goes to the room. As she opens the door, she sees Ivy crying and Sam holding her.

==============================

"How are you feeling, Ethan?" Theresa asks as she rubs is shoulders.

"Confused, scared. I pray to God that my little sister is okay."

"You just have to have faith, Ethan."

"I'm trying, Theresa. It's just hard. My mother wouldn't be able to go one if she died."

"Come with me." Theresa grabs Ethan's hand and he follows her.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see."

Chapter 7

"The chapel?" Ethan asked as he and Theresa walked in. "This is where you wanted to take me?"

"Yes, it is. I know that you need a lot of prayers right now and so do your sister and mother. I figured that we could come here together and pray for them. I hope you're not dissapointed."

"Of course I'm not, Theresa. This was a great idea. You always know what I need." He smiled at her and she smiled back. Theresa and Ethan go up to the altar, kneel, and pray together.

==============================

"Sam, what's going on?!" Grace yelled as she barged into Samantha's room.

"Grace. Now isn't the time." Ivy turned away from Sam and Grace and looked back down at her daughter.

"You've been down here all day and didn't even tell me where you were. What are you doing in here?"

"Don't you have any respect? Ivy's daughter--" Sam began as he looked at Ivy and they made eye contact. "I mean, OUR daughter, is fighting for her life." Grace is confused.

"What do you mean, 'OUR daughter'?"

"Just what I said, Grace. Samantha is my daughter with Ivy. I'm not going to talk to you about this right now. Please leave, Grace." Grace left and Sam went back over to Ivy. "I'm sorry about that, Ivy."

"That's not your fault, Sam. I'm sorry that she had to find out that way."

"Don't be sorry. She needed to find out. My marriage to her is over anyways." Eve walked into the room, interrupting their conversation.

"Ivy, it's time to go back to bed. I can see it in your face that you're getting pale. If you don't lie down, you'll just get weaker and then you won't be able to help your daughter."

"Ok, Eve. I'm too tired to argue with you. Please take care of my little girl." Eve nodded and Sam helped Ivy back to her room.

==============================

After Ivy fell asleep, Sam left the room to go check on Samantha. On his way, he spotted Theresa and Ethan sitting on the couch. He remembered his conversation with Pilar.

"I have to tell Ethan the truth." He said to himself as he walked over to the couch.

"Chief Bennett, how's my mother and sister doing?" Ethan asked as he quickly stood up.

"They're both sleeping. Actually, I needed to talk to you about something, Ethan."

"Is everything okay? Is there something that you're not telling me?" Ethan began to panick.

"Everything's okay, Ethan. It's about something else."

"Ok, what is it?"

"Why don't we sit down." They sat on the couch and Sam began. "It's about something that happened years ago. To make a long story short, you're mother and I, well, we were in love. Her parents and Alistair Crane forced us apart. I was so hurt that I couldn't even stand to be around her."

"I don't mean to be rude, but where is this leading?" Ethan asked.

"Well, I was talking with Pilar earlier and she told me something. She told me that you were my son."
