Apollo Theatre

    The Apollo Theatre opened in 1934, when the only thing that was in full swing was the Great Depression.  The Theatre was first known as Hurtig and Seamon's Music Hall before it closed down in 1930.  In 1933, it was bought by Sidney Cohen, who renamed it the Apollo and limited the entertainers to African Americans.  The Apollo still stands today as the mecca for African American entertainers.  Thousands gather in the theatre when:
