The Ballad of Maggie Day
This is the sad story of the Lifetime original comedy Maggie. First and foremost I must say that I absolutely loved everything about the show. I used to watch it every Tuesday night and then every Saturday night and then every Friday and Saturday night. Then it disappeared without anyone knowing anything about its whereabouts. The show ran for one season from August 1998 until January 1999 and then Lifetime reran some of the episodes for a few weeks after that. (I'm not too sure of those dates; don't hold me to them.)

Ann Cusack was on the verge of getting her big break with the starring role of Maggie Day and then Paramount pulled the plug, saying that the ratings weren't what they had hoped for. Even so, I am extremely proud of what Ms. Cusack accomplished with her brief run as Maggie Day. She proved herself to be an incredibly talented actress and was capable of making your heart melt and of forcing you to smile long and wide in joy and laughter.

For those of you who actually watched the show and enjoyed it as much as I did- impossible, I say- I certainly understand the disappointment that has resulted from its unsolicited farewell.

Fortunately for me I have every episode on tape somewhere in my collections. I will not say my final goodbyes to the show. It shall always remain in my mind (just as Paramount is, and has been, on my shit list :-).
A copy of the email I sent to Lifetime and their response back can be viewed here.
