The years keep adding up, building debts against accounts that no man as het has been able to settle sufficiently. reality itself seems to reject the notion of immortality. Alchemy has long been sneered at, seen as an ignorant phantom of modern Chemistry. However, the ancient sorcers may have held secrets lost to us today. Today the Age of Magic is ended and we have a rational approach even in religious matters. For even the religioius are now skeptics, they all know that miracles just aren't possible anymore. And thus the seemingly-immortal institution of Christianity suffers and withers. Eventually it will die completely, but what will rise to replace it? Mankind has always placed faith in gross falsehoods, so what will the crucible of reason be forced to convict next? What incontrovertable fact will be cast down to change the world yet again? We will always be living a lie. We will never reach the full extent of our potential. We can achieve grand new vistas for ourselves, but there will always be something just beyond our collective reach. We stand doomed to wallow in our own ignorance. Humanity moves forward to uncover new truths but summarily dismisses them because they contradict what we are comfortable with. The alternative is that we may devolve, rejecting even what we know now and reinventing the Dark Ages. History moves in cycles and humanity seems incapable of breaking this cycle by striving toward enlightenment at any cost to Self. Slavery, sexism, war, all the evils that humanity has or is trying to vanquish will resurge with a renewed passion. A new social order must be created, and with the birth of such a creation comes the grabs for power by those insecure in their own validity. competition for power can be limited by excluding every group but your own from the race. We are at a crossroad. We can choose to end human ills and refuse to tolerate manipulation by the status quo, try to evolve into a better society, or we can take the easy wah and let our ill-concieved conventions carry us into oblivion. Annuit Coeptus, Novus Ordo Seclorum. |
