1. Play the short version of the budget simulator. What was your budget totals?
$2811.84 billion
A. Total Spending?
$2052.75 billion
B. Total Tax Expenditure?
$759.09 billion
2. Did you cut the deficit? (How much?)
yes, by $15.51 billion dollars
3. Did you increase the deficit? (How much?)
4. Where did you make your largest cuts? Why?
I cut military spending significantly, because it seems unnecessary that we
should spend so very much on military spending when we could be feeding our own
poor and helping other nations.
5. Where did you increase spending? Why?
I increased spending most in areas such as general science, space, and
technology, education, training, employment, and social services, and social
welfare spending. I believe we should
try to tie up loose ends at home before we go banging about the globe, trying
to right all the wrongs. We should
secure a good economy filled with competent workers, and try to stem the spread
of diseases such as AIDS before we try to take over countries.
6. Run simulation again, did you do better? What was your total budget?
$2735.29 billion
What areas did you cut the most from this time?
Corporate Tax Breaks and Social Security
What area did you increase for?
Social Welfare
7. Use textbook, readings and your experience in budgeting to answer this
question. "Should we Balance the Budget?"
